Hey Guys, seeing as though the Chem mid year is approaching and Chem is probably my weakest subject I'm considering going to the Chemistry TSFX lecture.
I'm wondering if anyone here has been to these lectures and is it worth the money/time? I've heard some very good things about it but would like to get a few second opinions before committing.

If Irena is teaching it, stay well away.
Complete, and utter waste of time. And money :(
-
Notes are great, Irena is terrible :)
-
Go Physics or Biology. Greg and Ian are really good lecturers. Chemistry sucks apparently.
-
Go to connect education brah.. yo connect education can u pls provide discount since I just advertised you guys.. please.. am poor men.
-
Considering I booked my lecture at TSFX for Chemistry last night, I hope this "Irena" isn't the lecturer based on the comments ITT. I also booked a lecture at ConnectEd, though, I'm certain the lecturer for that will be amazing.

how would I know if Irene was lecturing. Don't want to waste $100 if this apparently horrid Irene is there.
Or should I just go to the Connection Education lecture? It's cheaper and from the looks of it contains the same sort of things.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

She'll definitely be there for one of the days (from my experience anyway)
-
Should have gone to Thushan's free lecture, that beats TSFX any day
And of course - go to Connect as well, they're cool :D
-
So wait, does this Irene do the whole 5 hours of talking on one of the days.

Yep :(

I want to declare that I have a vested interest here as TSFX advertises with us.
But honestly, I see a bunch of people criticising Irena without any substance. What does she do that you don't like?
I went to her lectures on Methods when I was in yr 11 (half a decade ago now!) and I found her to be quite affable and effective. I didn't get much out of the lecture only because I had already done a million practice exams and already knew much of the course and booked the lecture mainly because I was an overprivileged nerd, but a lot of her explanations and practice problems reinforced what I knew and seemed to me to be good explanations for everything.
Knowing Irena on a personal level, she knows her stuff and has a real commitment to delivering a quality lecture.

I'd rather not make a huge deal of it, as AN does have a connection with TSFX. N.B. I went to TSFX for many lectures in bio, chem and physics, and this is the only issue I really had.
My problems are (only apply to chem only):
1) She tends to have very little concept of time management and her lectures tend to end up unfinished and 30mins to 1 hour overtime (a bit more of a problem on weekends with poor public transport)
2) Answers to specific questions are sometimes replied with something like "Don't worry, it's out of the course" - even though they are valid questions at times
3) She praises her questions too much :P She wrote them and then says "This is an excellent question, very intelligently written, very tricky" before answering each one, it gets annoying after the first 10 times tbh
4) This isn't really a flaw, but I honestly prefer a lecturer that is a little more animated and interactive with the audience
Having said that, the other lecturer is quite good and the notes are excellent.

Wowie a lecturer speaking 5 gours straight. Damn, really by the sounds of it hope she's not in the first lecture.

You get a few breaks haha :)

i had the biggest laugh reading this because
irena was the ONLY lecturer because the other ones couldnt attend on the day LOL
so the OP was stuck with irena for 9 hours hahaha but so was i , on a side note she is a good teacher lol but boring
-
Lecture itself was below par but on the bright side, I sat next to an absolutely gorgeous girl and went to lunch with her haha.

Just to be a rebel and actually say something relevant, the TSFX chemistry practice exams are awful. Dreadfully boring with extremely poorly worded questions, most of which aren't very challenging or helpful at all.

TSFX? Oh yeah, their exams are a joke.
Quote Irena: "Our papers are excellent, they have been written by senior VCE teachers, they have been reviewed over and over again..."
I'm sorry, what???
OK. To be a little more constructive - TSFX should make questions that make the students THINK with the knowledge they HAVE, not go outside the Key Knowledge required.
