Am I the only one whos sick of studying I've only got a psych mid year and I've done stacks of practice exams I just want to be over and done with the exam
-
Amen, but i have 3. >:(
-
Wait until you get to uni, and you have 4 exams that are worth 70%ish each. Been cramming for 2 weeks straight and I still don't know enough.......
BUT, I remember getting to the point last year where I knew I knew as much as I could, and just wanted to smash the exam and get it over with. Just relax a bit, still revise, just don't go overboard, read over notes, read over where you lost marks in those practice exams and make sure that you are well rested before the day of the exam.
Good Luck......... Now back to trying to pass electrical and materials..........

sigh.. been craming this past week..
The thing is that in uni they could test on ANYTHING you've learnt

This.

I still have 3 exams in 11 days worth 50%, 65% and 75%

How do you guys cram? Just sit there memorising stuff? That's all I do it gets so boring. They should really make subjects just a little bit more interesting.

well... to say that i'm bored of studying, i guess i'd have to be studying in the first place.
D:

Work is fun. Get it done.

Sounds like you need motivation.
I've been cramming the entire semesters worth of maths in the last two days.
So here i am at 3am this morning, thinking 'fuck it, im done for the day'. I was physically sick from studying, had a stomach aches the entire day, could feel a fever coming on/back pains, eyes red like the devil.
I go to TrueTears and tell him whats up, and hes like 'yeah just go to sleep'.
this guy's cheeky as shit i learned today. he wants to rule the world, and i didn't realise he just wanted to get me out of the way so there's less competition.
Whilst u sleep snuggled in, this guy is getting ahead of you.
Anyways, so i was exhausted pretty much.
Sadly, i had only studied 3~ hours (NOT ENOUGH TO CRAM A SEMESTER'S WORTH in any way).
Then i saw this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2D1Rd0jBdg
worked another 3 hours
and felt fucking glorious. I could have gone even longer but my parents woke up and made me go to sleep. I don't ever get up before 10am so they knew i'd just stood up all night.
So far i've covered 20 lectures in the last 2 days.
Still got another 13 left till tuesday.
Being bored isn't an excuse, only being dead is!

is there any reason why you are cramming? because i don't think studying at 3 am is healthy lol especially for a uni subject.

atm, cramming by reading over material again and again, and out loud too

I was up till 6am a couple of days ago, cramming + playing tetris :P

Leaving things too late. Which most of us tend to do.
-
I don't know how you guys do it, staying up till like 4am just getting completely drained of energy- how can that actually help with study?
-
is there any reason why you are cramming? because i don't think studying at 3 am is healthy lol especially for a uni subject.
I like a challenge
Studying at 3am is heaps healthy :) I'm at my physical peak, did 50 pushups today (the most i've ever done EVER) and i could run a marathon right now if you asked me to
-
okay go run a marathon now.
We expect video evidence

well then... i guess im pretty fucked ey, 3am is just when i peak for my studies, i've been going until 11am for the past 3 years LOL (1-2pm if i'm really keen). Although there have been periods where it was completely the opposite way around, wake at 10pm, study till 1-2pm, sleep from 1-2pm to 10pm GFG

Its a bit different for different areas, like for engineering its basically make sure you know how to solve problems, do the tute questions again, do the past years papers that they put out. Well there is some theory to remember but if you know how to do the questions, most of the time that requires you to know the theory - why, and then how.
And on the time of studying thing, over the last two weeks I've been wokring best at 1am in the morning, its soo quiet :D. But it means that I go to sleep later and so my sleeping pattern has shifted by 4-5 hrs or so, so that means that I am currently sleeping at all the times at which my exams are on, and the times at which I would need to be travelling to them. So over the next 2 days I have to try and shift my sleeping patter back by 5 hrs or so......I'm fu**ed.
Starting to burn out now.....can't give up, there is 4 weeks of breaks at the end of this!
And nacho, just don't over-(over-do) it :P
EDIT: Fixed half of it up, a lot of that was incoherent initially.......
-
Exams at uni man. That is the stuff. I've never actually 'crammed' at VCE, and I definitely didn't sleep like, at 1 - 2am. But during uni exam prep? Like, you just cram and cram, not having enough sleep. I crammed pretty much 3 subjects in over 10 days, my back hurts all over, for some reason you don't get hungry, then suddenly you eat a whole lot of food. Before and during exams, you get anxious and start to panic. And at the end of the exam, you kinda feel like an undead zombie.
BEWARE YR 12 VCE STUDENTS. THIS IS YOU NEXT YEAR. IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. CRAMMING FOR EXAMS IS NIGH UNAVOIDABLE.
-
For dent.. I pretty much have to cram all the processes related to teeth and also all this physiology crap and then they can still ask some question which mixes several topics together making you think and then that just stuffs everything up.. :(
I never crammed for VCE, mostly because we got so much time for preparing for the exam.. (finishing the course 2 months early for exam preparation) In uni we finish the course 1 week before exams.. And then we have to cram like hell.
And for some reason for my exam on Tuesday the marking is so weird.. eg. listing 3 facts would normally give 3 marks in VCE.. But it only gives 1.5 in uni.. :(

So with dentistry do you just have to essentially 'pass' your subjects? Or do you have to do exceptionally well (maybe not because you're already in dent?)
-
Lol my chemistry exam marking scheme is so weird it's like a 7 mark question for getting the correct number for your answer.
-
I think with dent and law, most people would be fine with just a pass :P

its a little bit more complicated then just passing..
eg. for one of our subjects there are kinda 2 sections on the exam (dent and physiology). The dent part is about 45 marks and physiology is 120 BUT we have to get at least 50% on both sections to pass the whole exam. If you fail, you have to do a sup for both parts even if you only failed one.
for another subject there was a prac exam as well as a written and again we have to get 50% on both to pass..
in first year they dont really care about scores but im sure if you wanted to do post-graduate studies you would need descent marks.
and for me because im on scholarship i need 70% average across all subjects :( not happening at this rate.. theres just too much stuff to learn

How are you studying for Materials? practice exams + theory memorizing?

Wow Uni seems like hell.. you don't get to hear this side of Uni.. it's usually always the social aspects that you hear.. Luckily i'm taking a gap year so hell awaits in 2014.

Why do you have to cram in uni? Can't you just put consistent effort throughout the year like in VCE? or do you only get told just before the exam what its going to be about so your forced to cram? i dont get it

Well our exam timetables aren't released in the beginning of the year like VCE, they're released like 4 weeks before and some people have theres like 4 days in a row (which i'd say is much more common in Uni than VCE)
We have MSTs or assignments to stay on top of which tend to be due just before swotvac, and we only have one week swotvac where we have only just finished covering our 34 lectures of the semester and like 3 lectures we have just learned and need to memorise quickly.
End of rant.
-
There are a lot of reasons why people cram in Uni.. some just don't care about grades and are just looking to pass so they don't put as much effort throughout the semester (lazy college senior meme), some have a lot of commits that they have to meet such as work, socializing, extracurricular activities, etc. so studying consistently usually isn't an option due to their hectic schedules and sometimes it's because the course finishes late and there isn't enough time to prepare.
-
Oh I forgot to add that what's worse about uni is your exams count more, like 75%

Also a lot of people do tutoring and sometimes it can be hard to manage time

Uni is alright for the most part, assignment period and exam period are the worst times. Otherwise it's pretty fun and chill :)

So naive.... :P There isn't much incentive to study throughout the semester unless you have to get HDs/H1s, there's so much more you can do and most of the stuff at uni isn't compulsory. Hence, assignment time the night before most students start freaking out and actually start the assignments haha. Exam period is worse. Again depending on your motivations, you could study during the swotvac or just cram the day/night before the exam. But in the end it depends on the person and the subject imo.

HAHAHAHAH. Brah, trust.
@OP. DO FUN THINGS FOR 1 DAY, like super dooper fun stuff (that isn't academic based) and then you'll have some more motivation ;D Watching those motivational vids on youtube helps sometimes as well. For example, after this week of exams, I'm going full on muzztek at some guys 18th (On the Friday of exam week).
PROTIP GUYS: Even if you're nerdy/don't fit in with 'cool' people, bust a nut on the dance floor (at a party, that is) and you'll be motivated (to do anything) for 10 weeks. Trust me. OHYEAH, DON'T DRINK THOUGH. Ppl who drink a lot are noobfags. They end up ruining the night for almost everyone.
I don't even know why I'm typing so much random crap.
LOL it's probably because I'm bored of studying too =((((((((

Oh so its more of a tendency that uni students cram because of more committments, etc . I get it

Yah^^
Also: I think taiga/someone babe said something along the lines of "Less expectations, more work".
