Hi guys,
One of the questions on the exam talked about a two-month old baby and a 4-month old baby and asked which would have more anti-bodies.
Which one was it?
I said it was four but a few of my friends say two as they said that the question stated they had no previous vaccinations.
-
Fairly sure it was the 4 month old. If you have been immunized before then you would have more antibodies right?
-
4 month, the second time the kid is immunized he stimulates a much larger and faster response to the vaccine because of the memory cells from the first immunization which the other kid is just getting
-
I said the 4 month because it said that both the babys had followed the immunization pattern (2 months, 4 months.... year 10) thing :)
-
Yay!
What about the adults and the bacteria, was it that the bacteria had mutated and that was the reason why they were getting infected?
-
I said the memory cells for the infection were not getting continual stimulation therefore there immune system was responding to it like a new infection and to fix it I said continuing vaccines into adult hood
-

I wrote the antigens on the bacteria had changed shape or something.
Is that right?
-
I said that the memory cells and antibodies don't last forever and must have worn off
-

I didnt even think of that :( I said that their antibodies had died off from when they had been vaccinate in childhood but idk I guessed haha
-
Would my response about the mutation be correct and then for the following question say that they should research a new vaccine and administer it?
-
i wrote same thing romaboy
-
The four month old, as its assumed after second vaccination on at four month will produce more antibodies as the memory cells provided a quicker response.
-
Is it possible to get an above 40 SS with a high A on the first exam?
-
Uh oh. I answered the question thinking it asked which of the two children would produce LESS antibodies... :o
I'm out.

defs
-
For the virus question, i wrote that there was a new strand of the bacteria so the antibodies didnt recognise the shape of the new antigen so an immune response couldnt be triggered. is this correct?

Join the club :)

I wrote that by adulthood, the memory cells may have started to decline and therefore adults started getting affected.
I then said a possible fix is to have vaccinations in adulthood to produce more memory cells.

pretty much the same as me, but the mutation sounds more correct.. haha
-
Why would they specifically refer to the adults? I'd assume if they were giving vaccines to children for a mutated bacterium that they would inform the damn adults about the mutation? :S
-
hahaha yeah i wrote that the active site or something along those lines of the bacteria must have mutated, therefore the adults that had been vaccinated when they were little were vaccinated for the old bacteria. i guess this would also explain why the questions asked specifically for adults since the children would be vaccinated with the new one already.
.......argggg im not sure anymore!!!!!!!!!! :-\ :-\ :-\ (><)

this does sound good, maybe a question they might take 2 answers for?

Both of them are valid and Reasonable answers, any of them will get the marks.
-
There were multiple answers, I'm assuming as long as you justify your answer then it's all good.
Off the top of my head, a few explanations could have been.
- The immigration of a large population which hasn't been vaccinated against the bacteria
- The bacteria mutating resulting in antibodies that no longer match the antigen
- Memory cells expiring, resulting in adults losing their immunity
I think out of those only 2 and 3 would of been accepted.
-
Holy crap! Immigration is a pretty cool idea but it is so unlikely. :P
-
Yeah I doubt anyone would have written that, but I'm not sure if they could really argue against it if someone did choose to write it.
-
There was a question which was something along the lines of "What steps would you take if someone who wasn't vaccinated against a certain disease returned to their country after visiting a disease-ridden country"
I wonder if it's okay if I wrote "Test his blood for pathogens, if it's positive, kill him and then burn his corpse".
I've been watching too many zombie movies...
-
Yes it was the 4 month old baby.

It's still correct right? :(
There must be at least ONE country that does that. T.T
-
Well, all I can say is that if it was a two mark question you might get one mark for the first bit lol
-
hey does anyone know when we will get results?
-
hey does anyone know when we will get results?
August. :)
-
+ how do we get them?
-
I'm fairly sure they are mailed out.
-
No, you get them in school early-mid Aug.
-
If you want the statement, take out your wallet $_$
