Title: Connect or engage methods winter lecture for Methods?
Post by: FlorianK on June 17, 2012, 01:56:57 am
Which one would be in your opinion the best choice?
Or is there any other and better provider around the 50$ mark?

The lecturer at Connect (Abes) is an amazing mathematician and a very helpful member of this forum, I'd go for Connect if I was in yr12 :)

Will Connect edu have Spesh lecture? Does the Methods lecture on 1 July only cover parts of unit 3 & 4?
I prefer the Spesh and Methods revision lectures rather than headstart actually but dont know when it will be available? Nearly end of term 4?
How about TSFX? Is it good?

@Jenny I'm basically on the same skill level as 3 others in Methods. But currently ranked number 3. I was hoping to become number 1 in the SAC's with the help of the lecture.

@Vegemite I'll then take that one.

I went to Chem and Bio lectures at Connect and both of them were very awesome.
Thus, I'm considering to go to winter Methods lecture but personally, I like the revision ones helping me to flash back knowldge of the whole year. For headstart, I can learn by myself and do some exercises at home. Maths is likely to practise questions than listen and remember

Hi Jenny unfortunately at this stage we are not running a headstart lecture for Spesh. We will definitely be running a revision lecture at the end of the year though, so keep an eye on the website if you're interested, or like Connect on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/connecteducationAU) and you will be in the loop the second lectures are available.

The methods lecture will be revising a few topics from unit three ( functions, relations, transformations) as well as going over everything from unit 4.

The revision lectures will be later in the year, about late september/early october.

As for tsfx/other companies, i'll refrain from commenting given my connection (no pun intended) with connect education, but there are innumerable thread comparing the different lecturing companies, so have a search and you will find out what the different companies do well and not so well and pick the one that suits you best.

btw, whats the difference between headstart and revision lectures? Are they still the same notes?

not exactly,

The headstart lectures are focused more on TEACHING the new content in unit 4 (and so we decided we'd also revise the things in unit 3 that we thought were essential to unit 4), whilst revision lectures are tailored towards exam preparation (and cover the entirety of units 3 & 4).

And were always updating notes, so you can expect them to be different (i.e., better) in 6 months time :D

Abes, what would you suggest is best in the winter holidays? Like what lecture would you recommend people to go more?

I.... don't think it's possible for me to give a non-biased opinion on this... I'm doing the maths lectures in conjunction with Tram, so it's virtually impossible for me to not recommend connect. maybe someone else could give their opinion on this?

There really isn't a good lecture (other than Connect from what I have heard) for the winter. A few of my mates went to TSFX and weren't really happy with it.

From what I have also heard, Derrick Ha lectures (run at the end of the year) are also excellent.
