Title: Viability of skipping lectures for ENG1040, ENG1050 and ENG1060.
Post by: Triazic on July 10, 2012, 02:40:04 pm
ENG1040 (Dynamics), ENG1050 (Materials), ENG1060 (Computing): which ones are viable to skip consistently?

I hear that ENG1040 has perfected, short lectures uploaded and ENG1060 you can just look at the powerpoint slides... dunno about 1050.

I have basically the worst possible spread of auto-allocated lectures.

Any help would be appreciated.

ENG1040 can be studied at home with the help of textbooks except when you do instantaneous centres and velocity diagrams..
Beware the exam can get quite challenging as well :)

Yeah, Dynamics you can get away with very easily due to Kris' online lectures, the tute questions and several practice exams.

Materials if you attend the labs and do the practice online quizzes you should be fine, but the slides are definitely not too easy to learn from.

Computing is fine as long as you watch the lectures and attend every lab session and study the code. There are also PASS sessions for it.

I'd say you'd be fine for Computing and Dynamics, but Materials I would attend if you are not feeling too confident (as this thread might suggest).

The real question is whether you'll actually catch up with the stuff whilst you're at home.

I only did ENG 1060 so I can only comment on that. As long as you make sure that you are able to do every Lab questions by YOURSELF (Too many people copy codes...) you'll be set for a HD. You don't really have to go to the lectures as it is relatively easy to follow the lectures on the powerpoint slides.
