The mailing list is open for our FREE monthly VCE magazine!
For those that don't know, on August 1st we're rolling out a monthly VCE magazine that has tons of helpful articles. This includes profiles of university courses and recent VCE graduates as well as articles on social issues and many other really helpful items. You can get a full rundown at New atarnotes online magazine for VCE students
AND, exclusively for our first edition we'll be releasing an exciting bit of news that won't be posted anywhere else so you -have- to get the newsletter to receive it!
You can subscribe to our newsletter mailing list at
http://www.atarnotes.com/?p=emagazine
Or click the new eMagazine tab up top!
Important: If you had already signed up to the magazine while we were testing the subscription service in the last 2 days, your details have been deleted and you need to resubscribe
Onto the contest winner!
In the time-honoured fashion of pure despotism, we picked a name that I came up with for the newsletter.
It was a runoff between VCE ATLAS and a couple of others but in the end we felt the atlas metaphor along with the other meaning of being a map to success was ideal.
We're still going to give out the prize, don't fret! We were going to do a random draw from all participants, but then I noticed soccerboi submitted no less than 30 suggestions. So soccerboi, to reward your determination and effort, you win the prize of 3 free study guides!
PM me which ones you'd like and your mailing address. We'll have them out to you by the end of July.

Check your spam folder, and then mark us as not spam. We're investigating how to not appear as spam to some e-mail clients but it's proving to be tricky.
-
Didn't get a confirmation message either. Not in inbox or spam.

I've checked the spam/junk folder, still nothing, I did try resubscribe but apparently I'm already subscribed.

Same issue. Currently using Hotmail.

Interesting. Hotmail worked on multiple tests. Anyway, I'll be setting up a more robust email script tomorrow. Should solve the problems. So, hang tight.

Got mine straight away. On G-mail.

Not sure if it works since I'm apparently already subscribed. Tried to loop around that issue, but the 'Unsubscribe' button comes up with:
authentication failure [SMTP: Invalid response code received from server (code: 535, response: 5.7.1 Please log in with your web browser and then try again. Learn more at 5.7.1 https://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?answer=78754 v9sm11801944anj.14)]

Well I still haven't received the email, is there some resend button I can click?

Shouldn't need to. The confirmation email is only to make sure you can receive emails from us, and get us out of spam, etc. If you want to test it, you can go here, http://www.atarnotes.com/?p=emagazine&do=unsubscribe, and then just ignore the unsubscribe email. If you don't that one either, then we have problems. :p

Try now. Think Google's SMTP server was down for a bit. I'll just have to monitor it and see if I need to switch or not.

The website part of it's working now, but I'm still not getting an unsubscribe email.

Hmm. Working at my domain, gmail, and hotmail account. Would your email provider be blocking us for some reason? PM me your email and I'll see what I can find out.

Fine with my domain and hotmail account too. Got the confirmation email within seconds.

I'm receiving the emails now and I'm really not sure why. Cleaned up my blocked contacts list and now I seem to be able to receive the unsubscribe emails o.O?

Probably coincidence. I setup a local mail server since Gmail started blocking us again. Apparently their spam filters learn and I couldn't convince them we weren't spam.

So er, due to unforeseen technical difficulties (I haven't seen David and cannot contact him), we're going to have to mail out the magazine tomorrow night.
I'll be standing over here waiting for the angry pitchfork mob. Please be gentle with the fire.
-
Nawwwz it's okay, don't be worried, we won't lynch you! We were just going to waterboard and tickle you incessantly among other terrible things.

It's out now! Looks pretty nice. Great work! ;D
Probably coincidence. I setup a local mail server since Gmail started blocking us again. Apparently their spam filters learn and I couldn't convince them we weren't spam.
Gmail's server isn't designed for bulk sending, they have hourly and daily sending limits. You should consider SendGrid if you have issues with emails. They do a good job of trying to ensure emails won't end up marked as spam. Otherwise, at least make sure the domain has SPF records. :)

I assumed they did. But I couldn't find anything about it in Gmail's documentation. In fact, they even provided a tutorial for sending bulk emails. But I'm thinking it may have been for the paid version of Google Apps. I could get it to work temporarily by changing the email content, but then it would be blocked again a few attempts later. Oh well. Got everything working now. And have SPF records setup.
