Title: Question
Post by: Deleted User on August 04, 2012, 03:13:25 pm
What is the word limit for an essay on the exam and will you be penalized for writing an essay that's too long (about 1300-1400 words).

Not really any word limit that I've seen enforced.

However, if you're writing that much, make sure it's good quality too :)

Also, if you get 30/30 for all your essays, what's the lowest study score you can get?

Well, if you are ranked last for SACs with 0/100 for each unit and a terrible English GAT, I'd say you could get ~30. But usually with a high-ish SAC ranking, I'd expect a low of 48.

What? The English GAT is used to determined your study score?!?!?!??!!

There is no word limit, however if you write a 300 word essay for example that would get marked terribly. I would recommend writing anything between 800 - 1200 words. If you can write 1200 - 1400 words without rambling and running out of time, than by all means write that much! Personally, I know that I can put across my argument well within around 1000 words, anything extra is seemingly unnecessary.

It determines the top end students I believe (48 - 50), also if anything happens and you cannot sit your exam they will determine your score via your GAT score. It is taken into account when issuing all study scores though.

If your SAC results are significantly different to your exam scores, the GAT does come into play afaik.

Do you mean for SACs? I'd assume 25 (50% of 50)

You're probably right but just to confirm, it doesn't actually work like that. A study score is a ranking, rather than an assessment out of 50.

30 is mean, and if you're at a decent school, lowest rank might not even be that bad, you would get 35 - 45 depending on school IMO

Barring at private schools and selective schools, every other cohort will have someone(s) that gets near zero on the exam. Happens in every SAC at our school for Methods and English (and Legal Studies, I think).

If you get 0 in SACs and are ranked last, you essentially lose half your study score. We're talking worst case scenario with 100% exam (not at all likely though).

No four exams.

No four exams.

Out of curiosity, what are the other three exams that you'd like full marks for? ??? :P

well worst case scenario is 30 yeah, but they would look at GAT / Exam and stuff and + this would never happen...
also it's possible to get a 50 with 0 in SACs theoretically
