Title: Sitting down and getting things done
Post by: Surgeon on August 26, 2012, 01:45:15 am
Alright, so as year 12 goes on, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to sit down and study with no distractions for a good period of time, and even get started sometimes.

Given the current period in time, with exams approaching, I can't afford to become lazy.

I really want to do well and get into my course of choice to make things easier for myself in he future but sometimes it's just so damn hard!

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this?

Will try it out tomorrow!

I can sit down and study hard when I'm doing trials, but for generally studying or questions from the book i get easily distracted. Food helps. Say to yourself ok finish this chapter and you get a timtam :p

I usually put pieces of paper with something in big, bold writing.
Like, at my study desk.. when I've done like 30 mins of hw and I feel as if I need a 3 hour break, i'd turn around to leave the room and BAM, there's a piece of paper saying "DON'T GIVE UP, DO YOUR WORK" or something along those lines.
It really helps me.

Just do it. I don't ask questions why, I know it has to be done, why make excuses?

I find going somewhere with study as your intent always helps, ie. going to the library. Getting out of the house helps, and if you go to a library near a good cafe, you can use a reward system involving copious amounts of coffee/chocolate ;)

This used to be a HUGE problem for me. Now, I make sure I am in a quiet place, usually at school with no distractions, usually an empty classroom so then I know I cannot be distracted.

I did about 2 hours worth of maths homework in the arts (specifically visual communication and design) room. I know what you're thinking - two completely different subjects! Was I distracted by the pictures of all and sundry hanging in the room from goannas to coke cans...not at all! In fact, the clash between the setting and the subject was the motivating factor  ;)

Bottom line, like e.claire stated, try a different study environment. It's more likely that you're getting bored of your desk than your books.
