Stop stressing. Breathe. Take breaks in between work. Take breaks whenever needed to calm yourself down.

Take a weekend off - and I'm not kidding, just take a trip down to along the Great Ocean Road or to the Dandenong Ranges and just have a good weekend out - you'll see that you feel much better when you come back. This happens when you try to study for too much and too long - I usually find that whenever I can't absorb information anymore, I just go out for a drive, crank up the music and just drive around for 15 mins and come back home - it does wonders.

I know it's probably better for my health to go for a walk or a run, but I don't feel safe at 10.00PM and such going for walks and runs, so drives are better - that could also be an option for you if you have your license.

I think it's just about finding something you enjoy and taking a bit of time away to do that - maybe you play sport - take a weekend off to focus on your sport and training - for example.

go for a 30~ min walk and listen to some music - it's very refreshing and helped me a lot during times where I felt burnt out in year 12.

Even just finding more creative ways to memorise things will help- using crazy mnemonics, sometimes I add in humorous phrases into my chemistry notes -- like exaggerate what is already written (helps with chem that's for sure!)

Set yourself a maximum time every night of about 9pm and say that you will never study later than that. Aim to finish all of your homework by 9pm and whatever you don't finish you can save for the next day. It's not worth staying up late to do homework because you're not going to retain that information, so you're only wasting valuable sleep time.

Let me just comment here and just say how proud I am of this community. You guys support each other to no end. This is the kind of society I'd want to live in. You guys pick each other up when one burns out or gets sad, mental health and depression are openly talked about here with no condoned judgemental attitudes...it makes me really proud to be an ATARnotes member.

Paul, this is similar post to the Mental Health thread, fair point but really wrong place and wrong time. No one EVER said that the suffering of those in hospitals is less than been burnt out. EVERYONE knows that they are much more fortunate.

Please don't start all of that again.

Paulsterio, you do realise that people who work with all those unfortunate cases mentioned in your quote burn out all the time, right? What you're basically saying is "shut up with all your mental health issues, there are people with more important problems." Do you know how unhelpful that is?

I'm just confused why that quote came out after he made a really helpful post on the previous page :/

I think what Paul is more trying to get at is that perspective is always good, you don't need to slave your life away for VCE - it's okay to take time off, it's okay to maintain a good balance and not burn out in the first place.

I don't think he's really arguing "shut up with all your mental health issues" with his post above.

Perhaps a bit ambiguous to just provide a quote and no context though.

What are you talking about? The OP doesn't have any mental health issues that he mentioned, he just said he's burnt out from school. They're far from equivalent. I think what you're doing is harmful as well, implying that people have mental health issues.

VCE is STRESSFUL, i was there, we were all there, i'm sure we agree.

It's far from the worst problem you could have in the world though. If you're equating it to as bad as having cancer or you are legitimately as stressed as someone who does have cancer, that might be a problem, otherwise, the subtext here is, just relax a little, take a breath and enjoy the sun - its high-school not an amputation. VCE doesn't need to be hell.

Everyone have a picture of a happy sloth:

I honestly thought that the quote was quite motivating - it's just showing that we should never forget all the positives we have in life, we're all (I presume) healthy, none of us are terminally ill, none of us have been in terrible situations like war and most of us would still be physically intact! They're all positives that we have going for us and I think that we should all be grateful that we have had the opportunities we've had. I know that I'll always be grateful for the opportunities I've been given in life.

So instead of focusing on the negatives of VCE all the time, just take time out, take a break, get away and think about everything you have that rewards you every day in life, then when you're back to studying the next day, you'll just feel a lot better. Like I always say, every one of us has something to be proud of.

Maybe instead of just being one-dimensional about my quote, just try to see it from another perspective! :D

The problem I have with the quote, is that comparing myself to a 4 year old with cancer isn't very motivating or gives me the feeling of thankfullness*, it's actually depressing. Maybe that's just me though and I probably was also one-dimensional about my interpretation.

pi, I'm sorry you feel that way, I really am, because it wasn't the the intention of my quote at all - I've lost things which are valuable to me in life and with everything I lose, I learn to appreciate what I have more. Maybe you've just found that you haven't really had anything snatched away from you when you were hanging on so hard, but we're all still young and I know you mean no harm.

Yeah I think I understand Paul's intent now. I'll admit, prejudices from the mental illness thread just had me facepalm instantly when I saw the quote. But a little bit of perspective can be refreshing. Although, Paul, if you want to motivate, next time you should just find a picture of a sloth ;)

i was at the same point a couple of weeks back but i realised their is only 2-3 months left of year 12 and you have to make the most of it. What is the point of doing 12-13 years of school and study if you are not willing to give it your absolute best in year 12. Now i know you get tired, stressed pressured but this is only natural there is no way around hard work, whatever you do if you don't work hard enough and put in the effort you wont get the results you want. All those successful people out there, do you think they got to where they are now simply because they were naturally better than others?? no they worked and achieved their goals. Man  You just got to keep working hard and reward yourself after every study session, thats what after every study session by watching entertaining shows, Soccer  FB ect....

remember theres only 2 months, work hard now and you will get to wherever you want.

Good luck!!!  make sure to watch the video!!!
