Title: Post-VCE Freedom!!
Post by: sodapop on November 13, 2012, 03:07:40 pm
Hey guys, I dunno if another thread has been made for this yet, but I just finished my last exam today!  ;D It's such a relief, but also really weird because now there's nothing for me to do! I'm thinking of getting a job, hanging out with friends a LOT more, and we're going on a few days of schoolies as well. But obviously, that can't occupy all my time.

Save sitting in front of the TV and munching mindlessly through junk food and movies, do you guys have any ideas for what to do now exams are finished?

For post-yr 12s, what else did you guys do?

And for the newly graduated yr-12s, what are you planning to do?

AHH SO EXCITED!!  ;D

Cool, I just finished my last exam today too. I'm holding off on schoolies until January where i'm going away for a week with friends to the Gold coast.

For now, I think it's time I start looking for a job and getting my learner hours up for driving.. haven't really had time to do those things yet :)

I'm seeing a band I've been wanting to see for a good 6 years on Saturday (Radiohead.) :P And I've got other plans, including of course sleep, which probably comes first.
But I still have to cram for physics all of tonight and tomorrow morning before I am actually free...

If you do plan on it:
Brush up on the basics, so when the year starts the fundamentals are already gathered. Or perhaps on those areas where you don't want to spend lots of time doing next year.

But you're done with VCE! Why not enjoy yourself a bit before coming back to it? As one of the staff at my school says: this is probably the best and longest holidays you will ever get for a long, long time. You've worked hard for this moment!

Now I'm a mess.

Bazza, dangerous depends on what you're doing. I wouldn't be operating heavy machinery. But if you're just not going to leave the house and play as much dota as you can just keep going until you can't force yourself the sleep anymore. Avoid walking in case you fall over and stuff.

Two days after I finished VCE, I left the country and drank my heart out.

Now I'm a mess.
Only downfall of not working throughout VCE. Was going to fuck off to Thailand ASAP and never come back (well, not until I couldn't find any work at all and ran out of funds).

That being said, because I have no money to fuck off to Thailand, I will be working a lot so I can get some money so I can fuck off to Thailand. It will be grand.
I've started exercising a lot more, another thing I sacrificed. That takes a little time away.
Start working some more, which is an entire day of boredom gone if I wake up, go to work, come home and Interwebs.
After the first two become a pattern I'm going to buy a Latin textbook and start working through that before Uni, buy books that train logic for standardised test etc (read a thread with Erinny recommending a few so I'll go hunting) just for the kicks and to build my logic for Phil. Read some book "On Writing Well" that I saw mentioned in a thread once. And then I'm gonna pick random authors and read everyone book they ever wrote. First up, Dickens. Then Austen. Then King. Etc, etc, etc. This way, I will have no boredom for the rest of my life, ever. Especially once I fuck off to Thailand.

I have so many things that I want to do after my German exam:
1. Get a job - I might fill out a resume tomorrow and hand it in to a few places, but I won't do much until after my German exam.
2. Start karate again - I came so close to black belt but then I stopped attending lessons.
3. Do heaps of exercise - Not because I value my health, but because I want to look like a sexy beast with a 6-pack :P I will go for runs daily and also consider a weekly gym routine.
4. Host a huge party with lots of booze - I missed out on having an 18th. The last birthday party I had was when I turned 12.
5. Go for a huge long drive across Victoria, maybe interstate. I've been a P plater for 8 months so far, yet never drove more than 60km away from my home.
6. Stay in contact with school friends - they're the only friends I have!
7. Start playing online chess again.
8. Get a car of my own, rather than having to use my parent's car - but first, I will require a lot of money.
9. Find a place to live for the next few years - I really want to move out of my parent's home so that I can get a lot more freedom, but I won't do this immediately; I will wait until university starts.
10. Never look back! I know some people that say things like "I wish I was still in high school. It's so much better than university." - well I'm NOT going to be one of those people! I will carve myself a life that I can be proud of. I am really excited for next year!

Hmm. How to say this. Imagine the feeling you would get if you saw the most complex, beautiful math formula in the world that explained the universe in it's answer... and then someone burnt it in front of your eyes.
It's an individual feeling for everyone. For me, it's like watching the most beautiful literature, art, and music get burnt.
For one of my more girly friends, it's like watching a whole bunch of gorgeous fairies be stabbed in the face.
All in all, working in fast food causes your soul to feel as if it were being broken/crushed/suffocated very slowly.
I'm a big skeptic. I didn't even believe in a 'soul' prior to working for fast food. Then, I felt mine disappear.

Is that because of the quality of the food? I hate Maccas for that reason: all of their food tastes like rubber! But I like Hungry Jack's, KFC and Red Rooster. And best of all: Subway!

Nah man, it's because of the nature of the work. And the customers ~O.o~
Most people just stop eating the food eventually I think. I work at Maccas and sort of avoid it a little bit unless I'm doing an eight hour shift and cbf walking further than the front counter to feed myself.

I've been planning what I'm going to do after my exams since the start of the year. I've been just a tad bit keen :P
And I've got so many plans already it's just great. Waiting for 5.15 tomorrow!

And like most people on here, I'll be working lots and lots, going to the gym (HELL YEAH FREE MEMBERSHIP!), catching up on all my TV shows, starting a bunch of new TV shows (Suits is up there along with, like, 10 other shows) and since I'm not allowed to go to Schoolies, I'll be going to the Motherland! Wooo. I guess it makes up for no schoolies :P

I'm really looking forward to this new chapter in my life (:

3. Watch them, while being a eating food (yea, my english has reduced to this...)that I actually cooked for myself from scratch. Yea, I'm that lazy
4. GO SHOPPING. Buy a dress for valedictory.

Definitely, NO REGRETS. My first feeling after my last exam was that I hadn't studied enough, I could've done more and now I've lost my chance. BUT eventually I realised that it's the process of learning that really matters. So no regrets!

For me:
1. Get a job - $$ come at me!
2. Get fit - lose my study-fat ---> btw anyone know best way to lose fat and get toned, for girls? (idk if it's any different)
3. Oh and finish that Upskill course from last year. -.-

And FINALLY NO PHYSICS!!!!!!!! Worst decision of my VCE life by far, wasted a whole year unfortunately, I'll make do with 5 subjects that will make a real contribution to my ATAR next year.
Hope you went well though, it seems like you actually kinda care about it.

I like taking subjects seriously and doing homework weirdly, I feel like I've accomplished more in 3 days than I have a whole semester haha.

After my Physics exam I did a little dance. NO MORE VCE. NO MORE STUPID SHIT. NO MORE PHYSIIIICSSS EVER!!!!!!
Things I'm planning to do:
1. Get a job
2. Figure out how to download all episodes of The mentalist, suits, big bang theory, seinfeld, gossip girl.
3. Watch them, while being a eating food (yea, my english has reduced to this...)that I actually cooked for myself from scratch. Yea, I'm that lazy
4. GO SHOPPING. Buy a dress for valedictory.
5. Drive. Anywhere. Everywhere.
6. Forget about the mass of people I actually don't care about and catch up with the ones I do.
7. GET A NEW PHONE. Samsung Galaxy here I come:)

I know. It's just so boring for me with nothing to do :) Well, half of me want to relax but the other half don't want to turn my brain into mush, you know!

I don't know what your definition of relaxing is but normally it does not correlate with brain turning into mush lol.

My definition of relaxing is (and this is only my subjective opinion, please don't judge me and no offense to any body here :) ) watching tv shows and playing games excessively for an extended period of time without stopping.
I mean I did all that already since all my exams are over :), but something keep telling me that I can be better than this. I don't know, maybe I'm just weird.

Yes, but I took it because it was a requirement haha. It didn't turn out to be that bad, I liked it a lot more than VCE Physics.
If you are choosing to do it out of your own will then I recommend you look at the course first before jumping in (just wait for all the information to head your way as you accept your offers etc.).

I wasn't being serious :) Don't overload on unhealthy food!

Maybe heaps of rice?

But, eat lots of carbs (rice)

Eat big and infrequent meals, and eat lots at night, this is to promote fat storage.

Do you need to be heavier or actually gain fat?
Drink a lot of water and wear heavy shoes/clothing is the easiest and completely reversible way to just gain weight

I eat rice everyday == it doesn't work. Yeah, I will try eating lollies at night

Actually gain fat because when I go home, my parents will see me, so I wanna be as fat as possible

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

2. Get fit - lose my study-fat ---> btw anyone know best way to lose fat and get toned, for girls? (idk if it's any different)

Jump the ropes or skipping whatever you want to call it, i did it or about 2 weeks 3-4 days a week and honestly i saw the results. i had o stop because exams were coming up but im going to start tomorrow.

do itfor 30 minutes a day but it will take you 2-4 days to learn how to jump properly. (once i did it for 2 hours straight + 30 minutes jogging, the next 3-4 days  i couldnt walk ahahaha )

regardless skipping is one of the quickest ways to lose fat. knowing your diet is critical because if you workout and eat the wrong foods you wont get much results. so find out what body type you are there are 3 :

Ectomorph find it very hard to gain weight. They have a fast metabolism which burns up calories very quickly. Ecto’s need a huge amount of calories in order to gain weight. Workouts should be short and intense focusing on big muscle groups. Supplements are definitely recommended. Ectomorphs should eat before bed to prevent muscle catabolism during the night. Generally, ectomorphs can lose fat very easily which makes cutting back to lean muscle easier for them.

Mesomorph The mesomorph body type responds the best to weight training. Gains are usually seen very quickly, especially for beginners. The downside to mesomorphs is they gain fat more easily than ectomorphs. This means they must watch their calorie intake. Usually a combination of weight training and cardio works best for mesomorphs.

Endomorph When it comes to training endomorphs find it very easy to gain weight. Unfortunately, a large portion of this weight is fat not muscle. To keep fat gain to a minimum, endomorphs must always train cardio as well as weights. Usually supplements may not be needed as long as the person has a high protein intake in their diet.

Try sustagen, ensures, etc. They are meal supplement drinks, high in calories yet come in 250ml servings to prevent you from feeling too full. Have those alongside a balanced, full diet, and you should be able to gain a bit of weight.

Serious question, how many nights before it gets dangerous? Two, three?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/taiwan/9411062/Taiwan-teenager-died-after-playing-computer-game-non-stop-for-40-hours.html

Two days after I finished VCE, I left the country and drank my heart out.

Now I'm a mess.

I will go for runs daily

As a runner myself, thats a real, real easy way to do yourself an injury that could put you out for months.

Stick to every second day.

4. Host a huge party with lots of booze - I missed out on having an 18th. The last birthday party I had was when I turned 12.

Try this, it's a little weak for my tastes though.

2. Get fit - lose my study-fat ---> btw anyone know best way to lose fat and get toned, for girls? (idk if it's any different)

I hear smoking is real good for that, it's for the best since fat can really damage your health..

Probably wont understand it and it probably won't be much use to your course, unless you really enjoy doing it, it wont prepare you much. Live up all the holidays and seeing people while you can, all that gets harder.

Your muscles need time to repair and recover. If you do it every day, theres not enough time for that.
Title: Re: Post-VCE Freedom!!
Post by: charmanderp on November 18, 2012, 01:36:46 am
Also, stretching before you run is not a good idea. There's no blood running through your muscles and they're all tight, hence when you stretch you can actually injure yourself. Always run a bit at a jogging pace before stretching, just to get your muscles all loosened up.

Also dynamic warm-up > static warm-up. So lunges, high knees, etc, as opposed to standing still and stretching. Don't hold any stretch for too long, also.

@Special At Specialist , no its not. honestly there are so many 20 year olds and teenagers that go! its actually a sport and they have competitions. if you watch the video on the site you will see older people practicing tricks. there are some small children there of course, but mainly it is full of adults.

Oh my god, yes! I sleep late, then get up at school time...realising that I don't have school or anything else to do...and then I just find myself bored for the entire day.

Is anyone else having recurring dreams about school? According to my brother (who is 27) it isn't likely to stop anytime soon...

Recurring nightmares. Except they happen in the day. When I'm awake.

Yes, I had a nightmare last night that my English teacher read my exam and said it was average. What the hell?

Holy shit, I was reading that link all like
"Yeah, I'mma beast, not a single exam dream"
until

For individuals who haven't cared about the usual academic stream and might have pursued acting or music from a young age, for example, anxiety dreams are much more likely to take the form of the "audition dream" with concerns about how you oversleep, can't find the room or have studied the wrong part.
And then all the dreams prior to my monologue flashed into my mind o.O

I did dream of sitting in a lecture and be surrounded by 1200 others. The lecturer pointed at me for an answer but I've no idea what's the topic. Then suddenly, everyone started to engulf me with million questions that I've never heard of ><

The point here is at least I get into a uni :P

Today was my first day of freedom and I didn't accomplish that much, but from tomorrow onwards, I will clean my room, get exercise, apply for jobs and organise social events.

Speaking of which, are any of you going to Luna Park these holidays? I heard they were celebrating their 100th birthday and might be giving out free rides on one day (I'm not sure which one).

Yep...hopefully my ATAR is high enough (need an 80 but based on my performance this year, I'm predicting high 70s).

Are you interested in studying physics there as well?

Yeah I am, physics and maths. You seem like the kind of person I could get along with...
Finish year 12; straight into some 'real' maths ;)
Are you thinking of living on campus?

Excellent - assuming you've dived straight into the 'real stuff' after VCE - what have you been studying?

Yep, I've got Warrumbul down as my first preference for the accommodation application...but at this point, I really don't care where I have to stay as long as I'm going to ANU lol

In the job interview itself will the employer ring up your referees for certain or is it a chance occurrence?

Yeah, for me at least. When I first started handing my resumes out, most places called up referees, seeing as I had little work experience. I wonder, how feasible is it to just give a friend's name and number a la Vandelay Industries? Purely hypothetical ofc :P

HAHAHAHA Vandelay Industries. ROFL.

Normally, afaik, they confirm the referees before the actual job interview.

I still can't believe that I am officially done with school. I still have nightmares with me in the exam room with a pen in my hand and 5 minutes left on the exam... and I'm not half way done yet. Sadly this ACTUALLY happened in one of my exams, but most of them went pretty good. These days I'm just chilling and trying out new things.
