Title: A wise choice?
Post by: TKS on June 01, 2009, 11:07:44 pm
I am doing business management in year 11 this year and am considering to do 6 subjects next year which consist of : Maths Methods, Further Maths, English, Chinese Second Language, Physics, Accounting. Is this a wise choice? Should I be doing 6 subjects instead of 7?

6 is more than enough, most people do 5 in year 12

You can try it out and drop one during year 12 if you can't handle it. Depends on your personal capacity to study/not let the work load interfere.

I don't really see the point of doing 7. Some say that it gives you a back up in case you stuff up a subject, but the 10% rule which applies to your bottom 2 is more than enough as a means of back-up. Chances are that the strain of having 6 subjects in year 12, and any consequent decreases in study score across all of your subjects, will outweigh any of the marginal benefits gained in your bottom 2 gained by doing 7 subjects. Primary 4 will always be the most important so having 7 subjects is only going to negatively impact on this in most cases.

A LOTE in Year 12 along with 5 other subjects would likely be highly stressful.

Just do 5. If you drop a subject you'd really like to study, you can always pick it up later on, like at uni.

Theres no point doing 7 because your 7th subject won't count anyway. Your 5th and 6th are only 10% aswell, so if you do 7 subjects then you are only getting a major benefit out of 4. You are better off spending the time focusing on other subjects than doing an extra.

Is bus man 3/4? If so then i'd say only do 5 in year 12.

You won't manage with five and then the Chinese dude.
A lot of my friends started with six this year, including Chinese, and it was the first to go when the first round of SACs began.
I wanted to do psychology.  And I'm really glad I didn't because I would have had three midyears which I really didn't want.
Pick five.
I can always do psychology in Uni if I want to.

Go for all 6 this year.

You can always drop something if it gets too much. I'm going to guess that Chinese SL is outside school, so you will probably still have free periods (sorry study periods).

If you're interested in the subjects, do them.

you have already achied a 49 in legal studies!

Why are you aiming so low in chemistry? Just do what you did in year 11 with legal studies and you should do really well!

Again almost a perfect 50 for a 3/4 subject in year 11! Well done!!!
