Title: Would Scaling change for subjects that used to have mid-years?

As above.
I am aware scaling does not ENTIRELY depend of subject difficulty...but would it change in any way for subjects that used to have mid-years?

I can't see a reason why it should change any more or less that it would depending on whatever year you choose. The scaling for those subjects could change slightly, but it won't be because of the disappearance of the exam.

Unless people decide not to do a subject now that it doesn't have a midyear, the cohort should stay much the same, hence the scaling should stay much the same.

Do you think people may now opt in or opt out of a subject now that it only has one exam? I'm not sure

If anything, some people unsure about taking chemistry for example may think the lack of a mid year will make the subject too difficult and in turn may opt out. So if anything the scaling may increase, assuming that the majority of those who are unsure are on the "weaker" end of the spectrum. Whether this happens or not I don't know, and the effects will probably be negligible.

Best not to worry about scaling though, just do your best in subjects you like/are good at :)

I doubt the removal of mid-year exams will change the strength of cohorts doing these subjects next year

i guess next year will be a "win it or lose it " sitiuation . People wont get another chance to bounce back , that means students will try harder . Therefore wont really make a difference really

. But there might be a minor chance , that students will have a mental blank during the exam  ,which might influence scaling.

We'll see what happens.!
