Title: Confused about derived score
Post by: simba on December 24, 2012, 10:06:48 pm
Hi, I only just opened my letter with my results from the VCAA to find that I had derived scores for both my drama performance exam and my first further exam
The score wasn't used for my first further exam, but was used for my solo
I don't understand why I received a derived score for either exam, I didn't apply for it and as far as I remember, there wasn't any disturbances in either of these exams..
Also, For my solo, I received a B+. Is this my raw score or my derived score? If it is my derived score, am I able to find out my raw score?

Thank you! I'm just extremely confused!!

Is it perhaps your school is considered disadvantaged?

It wouldn't be for that, because I didn't get a derived score for my second further exam or my written drama exam

Under normal circumstances, you should have received a statement from VCAA outlining which exams your DES was approved for and which it was used.

On the other sheet all the grades you see are the higher out of the achieved and the DES, you will not get to find out what the other was.

Okay thank you! Damn, means I did even worse than a B+ for my solo :|
And Graphite, I'll contact either the VCAA or email my teachers to find out WHY I actually got a derived score for either of these exams. Thank you :)

It's probably Drama that's concerning her, because she really thought she'd do a lot better on her performance exam compared to what she actually got.

Yeah thats pretty much it.
They didn't even use my derived score for further though, because my raw score that I got on the exam was higher.
I found out that I got the derived score for further because we had a class full of year 8's next door who were being extremely loud and disruptive during the exam. The supervisor of the exam told them to be quiet, but they got even louder on purpose so they had to exit all those year 8 students!
I think I was concentrating too much to even notice much of it haha. But I still havent found out about the performance exam :(
