Title: Postgraduate Medicine Chances
Post by: Pup on January 10, 2013, 11:40:12 pm
How hard is it to get into a Graduate Medicine Course anywhere in Australia? It is really really hard and it possible to achieve if you work really hard? Is GAMSAT harder than the UMAT?

Gamsat - umat on steroids

It is arguably easier to get into a graduate mbbs course simply due to the extra places on offer. Plus a 5.5 -6 gpa "hurdle" requirement (for most mbbs programs) in a bachelors is much easier to achieve than an atar of 99.6+.

I dont think its fair to say gamsat is harder than the umat, i found the gamsat absolutely miles easier than the umat. the gamsat is much more objective - you know when your answer is right, and you know when its wrong. you walk out, and you know what you got right, and you know what you got wrong. I had no idea what was right/wrong with umat.
yes, gamsat is longer. yes, you can make the mistake of eating too much in the break and falling asleep in the last section. yes, its all day, but if you learn objectively, you will most likely find it much easier.

I got 68th %ile for umat, and 96th %ile for gamsat. its certainly different, it tests how you think, as opposed to umat, which was an aptitude test  (mostly)

From what I've seen so far:

UMAT: You can study very hard for it but you might still end up doing crap (like I did - I got a similar score to babes)

GAMSAT: Study hard and you'll be rewarded.
