Better than I expected, personally. :D
-
Yeah could've been way worse! Met a few people, explored a few different subjects all in all a good day :D
-
The Biomedicine lectures were a godsend compared to the Commerce ones I went to. It was so bloody boring and quiet and I felt like falling asleep...whereas in Biomed, one particular presenter was cracking gun jokes throughout the whole session.
Didn't really meet anybody new, but explored the uni for a bit. Only had to wait literally 1-2 mins in line for my ID :)

She was wonderful xD
-
Have to admit I did some perving on the opposite sex
-
It was really great! I was a bit worried that I wouldn't make it to things on time with sessions across the other side of the campus literally beginning at the same time another finished, but the presenters made sure they always finished a little bit early. Got some ideas on what breadth to do (the lecturer for Critical Thinking with Data is hilarious) and met heaps of new people. Shattered that I missed out on the Survival Guide that some people were handing out though. :(
-
I got a copy of the Survival Guide.

I forgot to pick up my student ID. Can I still get one during O-Week?

I forgot too -.-;;
actually:
Undergraduate students, and selected Graduate Students
Undergraduate students and all students from the Melbourne School of Land and Environment and the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences should collect their student card between Wednesday 23 January & Friday 1 March from Sidney Myer Asia Centre, Swanston St. Open: 9:30am - 4:30pm.
All other graduate students - collect your card from your Student Centre.
-
@ferrsal hahahaha! Oh god that cracked me up.
AAD is actually Admire At Distance day ;)
-
Admire at Distance day ... omg so true LOL
-
My aim was to make at least 1 friend. I made two. I think today was a success.
I also Checked out the opposite sex and I liked what I saw.
I'm really looking forward to doing Linguistics, it sounds super interesting.
Today was a good day.

"Can I have yo numba?" should have been used multiple times on multiple people.
This is the best time. At this time of the year, there are plenty of ice breakers you can use.

The physics session was quite entertaining! Dr Roger Rassool was so funny, haha!
-
Warning: he's not that good of a physics teacher. Tries a bit too hard to be funny and doesn't spend enough time actually teaching.
-
Very helpful I thought! As somebody who was completely unsure on what direction to take their degree and what subjects to take, I'm very glad I attended.
And yes, as everybody else has said, MUCH perving occurred.... Looks like I'll definitely be taking something from the Arts faculty as breadth ;)

Seconded.
Also, I would un-recommend Critical Thinking with Data. Main lecturer is very tedious to listen to, same boring case studies discussed ad nauseum, way too many assignments. A lot of the material, particularly in the second half of the semester, is very self-evident (to me at least)

Could you tell me a bit more about Critical Thinking? I was going to choose it but I'm a bit unsure now. Is the main lecturer the Robert guy with glasses and greyish hair (bad description lol) who cracks heaps of jokes? He showed us some slides about Iraqi civilian casualties, elephants reacting to buzzing bees, the Challenger rocket explosion and some newspaper articles. It looked like a bit of fun, but I do agree that quite a bit of it was fairly "self-evident". How many assignments did you get? :/
-
how big was the line for the BBQ!
lucky my good looking friend chatted up some girls who were close to the front and they let us go ahead of them.
lol jumped lie 80 kids

Yeah, stay the hell away.

One of the best reasons to make friends at uni is just incase they happen to be at the front of a BBQ line. True story.

I (mostly) had a guy called Ian who was not only boring, but somewhat full of himself. So quite possibly this Robert guy is new and likely to make the subject more interesting than it was for me.
And from the handbook:
"Three written assignments due at regular intervals during semester amounting to a total of up to 600 words (15%), 15 on-line assessment tasks at regular intervals during semester (20%), a group project involving production of a poster and a 4-minute oral presentation due after mid-semester (10%), one 1200 word written assignment due at the end of semester (15%), and a 2 hour written examination in the examination period (40%)."
Enough said.

Was kinda helpful xD
Was a bit boring cause I didn't really know anyone there ):
-
Got a tram fine for shitty advice. went to environments lecture.

Whoa, that sounds like a heavy load for just one subject... Might do Anthropology instead. Thanks for your advice!

That's nothing compared to what you're expected to do in any graduate school. Here's a rundown of assessments I had to do in one 12.5 point EDUC9XXXX unit last semester:
1. Drama group performance (10 minutes).
2. Critical commentary on aforementioned drama performance (500 words).
3. Music group performance (10 minutes).
4. Critical commentary on aforementioned music performance (500 words).
5. Art folio of ~15 artworks, including a description of the medium and techniques used for each artwork, a list of extension activities and a critical response to each weekly reading ("1300 words," which ended up turning into 3000-4000 words for most students due to the insane amount of work required).
6. Drama unit plan (1250 words).
7. Music unit plan (1250 words).
8. A review of a drama performance by the Melbourne Theatre Company (500 words).
Needless to say, I nearly died. And yes, I repeat, that's ONE unit.
