Title: Slightly confused about breadth
Post by: queen.muffin on January 24, 2013, 10:34:22 pm
So I will be commencing my studies in the Bachelor of Arts. I have a question about breadth subjects. Is it possible to enroll in a level 2 subject in first year, provided that you complete the respective prerequisites?

Thanks.

Yes, but progression.
So in second semester of first year sure.

"Students must complete a minimum of 50 points of study at one year-level before proceeding to the next year-level."

No, 50 points in total.  So like if you took three first year Arts subjects and one first year breadth in first semester you could take your second year breadth in second semester.

What about for biomed?how many breadths are we spose to do? A maximum of 37.5 points from breadth subjects is 3 subjects? Or can we choose to do only 2? Also I'm considering doing Chinese as a breadth subject and not a diploma but I'm not sure which level I should apply for. I'm having trouble deciding between Chinese 2  and Chinese 3 post VCE. I got 35 raw for Chinese :S and I think I've forgotten quite a bit of it since I did it in yr 11. Which one should I choose?

I plan to do 2 breadth in second semester, 0 in semester 1.  One of my breadth is level 1 and the other level 2.  Will this be allowed-obviously if i do 4 subjects in semester 1 it will be 50 points of level 1 subjects.

A maximum of 37.5 pts is from 3 level 1 subjects. For the whole of your undergraduate, you must complete a minimum of 4 breadth subjects (or a max of 6). Send the coordinator of the language an email with regards to your language proficiency level. In this case, the coordinator listed here: https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2013/CHIN10007

I was asking about doing italian at uni after not studying it for a year, and they said for me to enrol in the post vce subject.

Thanks   :D I was also considering doing creative writing or one of the breadths from the fine arts areas but will it take a lot of my time? I did graphics in yr 11 but then dropped it bc it was too time consuming as I'm a bit of a perfectionist  :P
