Title: calculator reveiw

hey guys my brother is going to yr 11 and needs to buy a calculator.

He is looking at the casio class pad 330 and the Ti texas Nspire.

for school he is allowed to use which ever calculator he wants

he wants one which is user friendly and a high resolution screen and easy to learn.

What subjects is he doing? What does he plan to do in year 12?

I would suggest the Ti-nspire CX, I used that through Year 11 and 12 and it worked perfectly for close to everything. It has a high-res screen with LED backlight and is rechargable via USB and socket. Solid device and easy to use after a bit of meddling around. If he is doing Methods and Specialist a graphics and scientific calculator would be wise to purchase.

I'd recommend the TI-nspire CX. It's got the best specs (as far as I'm aware) and uses the TI OS, which hasn't stuffed up in VCAA exams :)

Also, b^3 has tips for it on the forum, so I'd definitely go with what he's got!

I can't really vouch for the others, but I can say the Casio Classpad 330 is only really good for Further Mathematics. Otherwise, it is very limited in what it can do and it can take a while to process some questions. The only real benefit is that it is very easy to use without much practice.

But honestly, from what I've seen, the Ti-nspire is leaps and bounds better than the classpad, and the newer colour version seems to be a lot quicker than even the old nspires (which we could always beat the kids who had the classpad with anyways). I could be a bit biased here, but the general consensus on AN is that the Ti-nspire is better (bar a few users who can't let go of their classpad :P)

ti nspire cx cas is awesome cause it's in colour and easy to use!!! but mine won't charge anymore which sucks : p
