What do you think the examiners are looking for in the writing section of the GAT?
I thought I did okay last year but apparently it was crap.

Well, I'd guess, they would have to each be at least two pages long.

In the diamonds one, I believe what they wanted you to do was sort out what information you should have used and what didn't fit into your compilation.
I know of people who wrote a lot about statistical components and then slotting in the quote about diamonds being a girls best friend etc and it didn't really work for them, hence they didn't do as well as they could have.
You don't have to use all the information in the first essay, you should use what makes sense.
In the second essay, all they want you to do is utilize persuasive techniques in response to the topic to argue your contention, from what I remember.

I failed the writing in 2007 (like 17/40) but passed in 2008 - 30/40.
I think I didnt include some of the information given, probably they were the main points.

in 2008 (year 11) I got a 50 for the writing task section overall. I was pleasantly suprised, I think they really just want you to be able to show that you consolidated the information in writing task 1, not just regurgitated it.
