Hi everyone, newbie question: one of my lecturers provides us with extensive notes (I.e more than 25 pages a week). He said that absolutely everything on them is examinable. How do I summarise these notes if everything can be examined? I really don't know what to do!
Thanks so much for your advice!

Look for bigger overarching concepts and themes. Surely each slide can't be totally distinct from the last. I had a subject with something like 50 slides (minimum pretty much) per lecture, people still seemed to manage OK.

Try to understand how the current topic links to the past/previous topics. In your notes break up the lecture into sections to decide what the overall big picture is about.
Also try to avoid capturing raw facts. These are of no help to you on the exam. Always aim to write detailed notes so you can use them to study in swotvac.

I don't know about you but i'm a visual learner so just reading notes no matter how simple won't do for me. So whenever I get a large friggin stack of lecture notes from my lecturer, the first thing I do is make a concept map and connect all the ideas together, but doing concepts are good for learning the basics (I mean there is only so much that you can learn from a concept map, they're meant to be simple) but not for a whole lot of detail. So I simplify the really detailed stuff into my own words and draw pictures to go with it......
*note this obviously wont work for math :P just practice practice practice.

Great point that you mention there. There are different learning methods and it's up to the individual to determine what works for them. As with most things in life, there is no one clear cut approach. It doesn't matter if you're doing something ridiculous like sticking concept maps on the back of your toilet door (I met someone once who does this). If it works for you, then by all means ride it to success.
