Just wanted to know where your Accounting class is upto, and how many SAC's have you already completed?
-
My school is up to chapter 7 in the cambridge book. We've had two sacs so far: one for chapter 1-4 and the other chapter 5-6.
I think we're going to have our third sac on chapters 7&8 and most probably be in the 3rd or 4th week of the term.
We also submit some of those exercises from the cambridge work book as a part of our sacs.
Besides that, we haven't done that much.
Also, i don't know whether my school is ahead or not, but our teacher has said that we are apparently ahead since he is going on holiday for either the last week of term 3 or the first 2 weeks of term 4 -_-
So it's kinda crap, because when we need our teacher the most he won't be there, and also it sucks that he said he most probably won't check his emails at all since he is on holiday (which i can agree with since you don't want students constantly emailing about work which you have taken a holiday to avoid it in the first place. But since we are his year 12 class he shouldn't really avoid us). Also because we have to now go ahead and at a faster pace, all the chapters we going through are kinda being skimmed through and thus most of the class has to go back and reread the chapter to understand it properly. That sucks as well.
so yeah, hope that gives you a perspective of how another school has gone. where are you up to?
-
done everything upto chap. 8 (inclusive) & have had two SACs on this (ICT & written)
-
Wow. Looks like you lot are ahead.
We've got a teacher who has done a Teaching degree in Economics, she hasn't taught us anything this year, except for giving us homework and checking it, which is pointless because barely any of us even get the newer concepts despite trying to learn on our own. We had a SAC on Chapters 1-7, which our teacher bought from the QAT company, but 80% of the class found this SAC online, and a few students who were stupid to the max decided to memorise answers word for word, got called for cheating and now our Accounting class is in confusion overall as we don't know what to do, due to the fact that a SAC has been called for coming Monday, the first day of term, without much notice.
Now don't get me wrong, the whole class didn't cheat. It was a 'few' people, I assume who looked at the answers and thought they were smart to have copied word for word. The rest of the class who had the SAC didn't copy but studied off their own personal set of notes and just briefly looked at the questions on the SAC prior, but here's the deal, the teacher already gave us the questions a week before the SAC, but general questions such as:
1) Using the qualitative characteristic of ' ' explain how ' ' is classified as a ' '
So it didn't give away the SAC much, but by looking at the SAC available on the internet, people were able to identify the questions.
What do you think? Is this a complete teacher fault, or a cohort fault?
(Sorry for going off track !)

My accounting teacher actually took leave so most of the mhs classes were stuck with a really bad teacher who taught us the wrong things. But we managed to finish chapter 7. We have done half an outcome so one sac, our next one is may 1st.
My friend that goes to a different school has already finished up to chapter 9 and done 2 sacs.

same as sin0001 ;D

So what did you have to do for the ict sac?
-
So what did you have to do for the ict sac?
mine was massive, we had only 10 transactions but we had to post them into; general journal, general ledger, creditor/debtor ledger, stockcard, trial balance, balance sheet, creditors/debtors schedule. No written questions though, and it was on some shitty accounting program.
-
So what did you have to do for the ict sac?
Basically record entries into the journals, and then for the written sac, we just recorded these into the GL. Both sacs had a bit of theory.

Did they memorise the suggested answers word for word? Or did they come up with their own answers and memorised it?
-
I don't know when our ict sac is going to be nor what it is going to be on. :/
-

Stupidity at its best. They memorised the suggested answers.

it will be included in your last sac, budgeting. the ict part is entering numbers into an excel document to produce an income statement, cash flow statement, and a balance sheet. however there will also be around 10-15 marks worth of theory questions.
-
ICT was a b*tch.. make sure you don't make any typos!

well that's not that bad. I would rather do it on the computer than by hand. :D I was about to type that then I read the next post lol. Who was your teacher?

u have to give them a bit of credit they were smart enough to remember the answers word for word.
Though I think it's the teachers fault not the cohorts.

My school used the QAT sac for one of the outcomes last year.. coincidentally I did it as a practice sac (from another source of course)

lol the sac that we have already done that was from chapters 1-6 had no journals and had a chapter 15 question lol.

We're up to Ch11 in the Units 3&4 Cambridge Textbook.
-
we had our sac 2 on chapters 5-8 a week ago, now we are about half way through 9, should be starting 10 end of next week!
-
Up to chpt 13 in Macmillan textbook- got a sac on tuesday on special journals, stock cards n stuff. our second SAC
-
McKinnnon SC has finished up Chapter 10 in Cambridge (Balance Day Adjustments - Expenses). My teacher came from Haileybry and apparently we've caught up to them and they were a long way ahead of us even at the start of the year.
We've had 2 SACs: 1 manual on chapters 1-6 and 1 on excel which was chapters 1-8 but mainly focussed on chapters 7 and 8 (journals/stock cards)

Wow. You guys are quite ahead. We finished our 1st SAC on Chapters 1-9 in Week 1 Term 2, and are currently finishing off Chapter 10. Our next SAC is on Chapters 10-14 during Week 7. (Macmillan Textbook btw).

Our class just finished the sac on chapter 7(general journal) we are so behind!

Haha mate, I'd rather be where you guys are right now. Honestly, I don't even know how I managed to pass my SAC. I'm aiming for the 40, ranked 6 after 1st SAC, and not too happy. Our teacher basically comes to class, says we're doing this today, explains in one paragraph, gets distracted when asking for help, class is over and you're left to do the course work on your own. We started Chapter 10, but I'm thinking of re-going through 1-9 possibly by getting a tutor.

Finished Unit 3- having our 2 remaining U3 SACs this month.

So what are you guys gonna do for the rest of the semester? Start unit 4 or do crazy revision?
-
probably start U4; makes more sense to finish the whole course first and then do some solid revision
-
Wow. Damn, already?! I think we finish Unit 3 in Wk 7. I'm so screwed for the General Journal and Ledger aspects of Unit 3. A bare grasp on it. How did you guys get through Unit 3 so quick?

Teacher proposed a specific-weekly timeline at the start of the year, we just stuck to it I guess.

Practice makes perfect. :)

Our school just finished Ch 12 which is the final chapter for Unit 3. We have out 3rd and Final SAC for the Unit next week. It's on Ch9-12 (Income Statements, BDA's, Depn and CFS). Personally, I'm doing ch14 in the textbook, just to be ahead.
We're also starting Unit 4 next week. We'll be finished by mid-term 3.
