The VCE Extended Investigation is a new VCE study. It is being piloted in a small number of schools in 2013. The study has been accredited for 2013 only. Pending the outcomes of the pilot it is intended that this study will reaccredited for a period of 3-5 years and will be available for state-wide enrolment in 2014. The VCE Extended Investigation contains Units 3-4 only.

my school trialed it when i was in year 10 last year, you basically pick a topic and do your own individual research on the topic and thats it really, maybe its differnet in vce but yeah, eg alot of kids did things about the social side of school and did interviews and questionaires etc then used their info to make a point

It's a new research subject. My school is trialling it this year. I may do it next year if it is still available. Looks interesting. I don't think anyone any of my friends are doing it but if I do find out some info from people I may be able to explain more.

Seems similar to a subject that we have in Germany, which is also a compulsory subject. You get into a class which has an overall topic, there are 6 different ones for my school. You write a 15 pages report about a specific topic that you choose yourself, related to the overall topic and then you also hold a ~1 hour presentation about it.

Just sounds tortuously tedious. I'm sure there are people who like that, but for most, that stuff is dreadful without any context!
