Title: Finance units
Post by: sajib_mostofa on April 20, 2013, 11:16:59 pm
Hey guys

I am intent on majoring in Finance and I was just wondering if I could get some advice on some good units to do. Preferably I'd like to pick units that have some focus on the analysis and maths side of things rather than being overloaded with theory since that has always appealed to me.

Cheers

options afc3340, modelling afc3540, debt markets afc2340, mathematical finance mth3251

although most finance units aren't mathematical, they are catering for the majority of the commerce cohort which knows little to no maths. If you want to do mathematical finance, I suggest you do science faculty units.

Thanks TrueTears. Out of curiosity, have you done AFC3170 (Management of Financial Intermediaries) and AFC3230 (Financial Analysis and Valuation) and if you have, were they interesting units?

afc3230 - just mainly accounting stuff mixed with some finance, cynthia cai is taking the unit, I know her pretty well and it's heavily accounting focused as cynthia is an accounting person. It's actually not a very easy unit but again all theory no maths.

afc3170 - all theory, very easy unit though
