Title: Subjects VCE???
Post by: Virgil_05 on June 28, 2013, 08:46:33 am
I haven't started VCE yet, but I'm planning to do all of the maths subjects (Methods, Specialist and Further)

Is that a bit too stressful? I do enjoy my maths, and I'm planning to do further 3/4 in year 11

It's not stressful, but if you're not already planning to do physics you should do that instead of further; physics should be relatively easy marks if you're doing spec, and you won't have a good score forced into your bottom four.

Keep in mind that the lowest scoring subject if those 3 maths would be put into your 5/6th subject slot.

To do spesh you have to do method anyway. And doing further 3/5 in yr 11 would reduce workloa in year 12 for maths related stuff.

If you're good at maths than all 3 would probably be pretty good. Especially considering you could aim very high for further so that's in your top 4. And then have a good integer to boost your ATAR after year 12.

OP,

The normal strategy for good maths students is Methods in Year 11 (it's tougher, but you can dedicate a lot of time to it) then Spesh  in Year 12 (the challenge) and Further  in Year 12 (the free kick)

The OP may not to to a school where the option exists to do methods 1/2 in year 10 or simply may not have chosen to do so.

year 11: further
year 12: english, methods, specialist, physics, (insert other subject here)

make sure you smash physics or the other subject ! so that the top 4 rule doesnt sting

If you enjoy your maths, have you looked into doing UMEP Maths (or MUEP Maths) instead of Further? Certainly it'd be more interesting than the content covered in Further Maths
