Title: Going from Literature in Year 11 to English in Year 12
Post by: doher109 on August 28, 2013, 09:07:44 pm
Hi everyone,

This year (Y11) i am doing Literature 1 & 2 and not English. However next year (Y12) i'm doing English 3 & 4 and not Literature. I was wondering if anyone can provide any advice for any study/work i could do between now and year 12 that would put me at the same level of knowledge as those that did English this year?

Thanks  :)

The area which I struggled with the most going from year 11 literature to year 12 English was the language analysis.

Analysis essays, context essays and even creative writing I found very similar to the year 11 literature equivalents, whereas while I was doing some language analysis in my passage analysis pieces for literature, but still struggled with it in year 12.

I suppose my advice would be to write passage analysis pieces. Pick an article from The Age or a newspaper of your choosing, write a passage analysis piece, and hand it in to an English teacher at your school to mark. Most won't mind marking extra work unless they are really swamped. You're only in year 11, and it'll undoubtedly be covered in year 12 English, so you don't really need to go all out on it, but it's something to consider.
