Title: Melbourne High School- So how do you guys feel about your choice to come to MHS?
Post by: Good Will on October 06, 2013, 11:50:10 am
I think that;
The people are great and it's a unique environment but overall it's a little underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I have made great friendships and have had great experiences, but to be honest my problem is with the learning experience. I feel like we receive less attention(in need of a better word) at MHS because they already know that most of us will study hard at home and many will have tutors. This is just my opinion.

So to any current or past students, what do you think of MHS?

Best decision of my academic life. Loved it.

Teaching isn't amazing because the students should be ;) (I didn't really mind, we played lots of CS)

Depends on the teachers you have. Some of the teachers are very supportive if you take the initiative to actually sought out their help consistently (particularly the Maths department and some English teachers). But yeah, since a lot of students have tutors in the first place not all of them seek help from the teachers as often, which is probably why it feels as if we receive 'less attention'. I felt that the learning environment was great but of course not perfect, since there are of course some teachers which have...questionable standards

But yeah looking back at MHS, it was the best decision of my life tbh. The best thing about the school, and the thing I miss the most, was of course the cohort, with all the brotherly undertones. There was a huge tolerance for diversity, we supported each other however we could (should've seen the Year 12 group on Facebook during exam time lol), and of course the cohort is just tight as.

The next best thing at MHS is the extra-curricular opportunities - not many schools in Australia can rival MHS and Mac.Rob in this area

But seriously nobody takes the MHS Diploma seriously due to its uselessness really

My friends regard the MHS Diploma as their life. Maybe it's relevance to the student has changed.

Abe pls.

No regrets on going there by the end of year 12. Great extra-curricular opportunity, a huge amount of in-school networking (old boys, guest speakers, interest clubs), and you have a network of friends from all over the state, not just in your locality like most other public schools.

The opportunities for learning are all there, some of the staff aren't that great, but I find that students can easily motivate eachother to do better through the natural competitiveness in a selective school.

I'm not saying that co-curriculars are terrible at MHS, I just think the statement that ' not many schools in Australia can rival MHS and Mac.Rob in this area' is wrong.

Dev pls. Y u do dis.

We'll rephrase this then;

'Not many schools in Australia with an annual tuition fee not exceeding $15,000 can rival MHS and Mac.Rob in this area".

Better? :P

The first and only (active) Australian finance professor in the States (top 10 finance school), Stephen Brown, was an MHS graduate.

Nuff said.

Lolll she ran into me and another Australian last year while we were baking ANZAC biscuits for an international food night. She asked us how we knew what ANZAC biscuits were, and then the two of us discovered we were both from Melbourne...
