Interviews have started rolling out for UWS, apparently they keep them coming so some might have got them today, others not so :)
154.5 weighted (1:1:0.5 ratio for S1:S2:S3 respectively) seems to be the non-GWS cut.
I'll be updating this thread as we go The "Will I get an interview/offer with this UMAT?" query for med and dent
If you have any input into it that'll help a lot :)

Adelaide Uni Interview Offers are out!!
-
Yay! Got an offer for an interview! :) Do these guys check umat or is it just everyone gets an interview sorta thing?
Thanks!

Adelaide Uni Interview Offers are out!!
No, they are not. It was a mistake in their system that allowed ANYONE who logged in to see that they had successfully obtained an interview, regardless of UMAT. They have since fixed it. Read more at https://health.adelaide.edu.au/StudentApplicationTracking/index.php/Login/display_page
The interview offers for the University of Adelaide should come out on the 31st October.
-
Apparently for the University of Adelaide, they had a glitch on their website , so they're "officially" sending out offers on the 31st of October.

Finally the real thing is out :P Silly UOA.
-
Yeah, UoA scraped their online service and have now resorted to emails and phone calls to book interviews. Noobs hahahhh
Looks like the cut-off UMAT for interstate non-rural kids for an interview at UoA was 96 and above, from what I've read on other forums.
On a side note, got an offer for an interview at the University of Newcastle today in the mail as well! :) Check your letterboxes, people.
-
Missed a interview for MBBS at UoA with umat 91%ile but got an interview for Dent
-
Congrats guys! Looking keen to see the new batch of AN meddies (and dentists) :)

Haha so do I :D I'll pass it on to him, that's very kind! :)
-
Anyone know the exact cut off UoA wanted?
-
I think you need 96ile for interstate, but I had a 94ile and still got an interview for med. :)

96 was last year cut off.
-
Interviews for UNSW are also out! Check your emails :)
Interviews for interstate applicants are on the 24th of Jan. That would mean three interviews in three consecutive days from 22-24th Jan so far.
-
Haha I remember when I had my Monash interview and then my JCU interview the next day, ended up having this slow as taxi driver from Townsville and ended up being late to my JCU interview -_-

When do they usually hold the JCU interviews? Also, do we HAVE to go all the way to Townsville for it?

There are some in Dec and some in Jan. Yeah, you have to go to JCU in Townsville.

Monash interviews were out about an hour ago :)

Just letting you know the system must be incredibly different this year. People at my school have gotten interview offers (wtf no. 1) with UMAT scores in the 70-79th percentile (wtf no. 2), with 99.00+ ATARs.

I think they must have increased the numbers of interview places?

Thanks for sharing. This is a surprising news.
-
Yeah, I was shocked too.
Example: 78th percentile and 99.55 ATAR was offered an interview.
-
Yet I have a friend who got a 99.60 ATAR and 84th percentile UMAT and has not received a letter. Weird. Judging from the interview time allocation system, there seems to be a total of 432 people who got interviews (27 people per session and 16 sessions).

WHAT? I guess monash made an error....or maybe stick's friend is from rural? (i am just guessing here)
-
They probably took into account SEAS and things like that, interesting.
Or if they have Vice-Chancellor’s Access Monash Scholar’s Program they could have got an interview http://www.med.monash.edu.au/medical/central/scholars-program.html
-
Not that I am aware of, but there could be something else. :S

Another friend of mine got 99.30 ATAR and 72 UMAT and also got an interview. No SEAS or Scholarships. You don't know how pissed off my other friend (with 99.60 ATAR and 84 UMAT who hasn't got an email) is.

That's really f'd up, makes no sense at all :/
Has he called up Monash?

Now I am really really lost
-
Maybe tell your friend to check his emails, since everyone I know who has received offers got an email, not a letter.
(Just for your information, I also received one with 75% percentile UMAT and 99.90 ATAR)

Yep it's in emails, check the spam folder and also make sure he's checking the email he used for VTAC.
-
My friends who got 87-88th percentile in the UMAT, one with an ATAR of 98.50 and the other with 99.55 both got offers for interviews o:

Sorry I meant email. I've even tried logging him onto the website directly and it didn't work so he definitely has/did not get an offer.
Edit: I would also like to congratulate everyone who has received an interview offer. Well done and good luck! I received an offer as well :)

Congrats to you (not unexpected haha) :)
Tell your friend to call the med admissions tomorrow or email them [email protected] to clarify how they've done it and where he went wrong.
Sounds really dodgy.

This may help explain it:

Try to send them an email today. I don't know about med admission but MBBS Student Service Office closes from 12.00pm on Friday December 20 until 9.30am on Thursday January 2.

I've relayed all the advice to him. Thanks for all your help! I'll keep you guys updated on how this turns out.
Again, congrats to everyone who received an interview offer and to those who didn't, don't give up. There are many alternate pathways and if you are passionate enough, there is nothing stopping you from eventually doing your dream course (medicine presumably).
-

Lol. 99.8 and 75th percentile with no offer here
Edit: read wrong section of my email. So i got one. So is selection based purely off of the interviews now?
-
^ That might be it! Good thinking!
-
Ask your friend whether he got above 50 in each section of the umat. That was one of the prerequisites
Spot on! Cannot believe I forgot about this, but yeah, my friend got a 49 for Section 2. When he called them, they said that they have not released all the offers yet, but this explains why he has not received an email yet.
Thanks a lot, OutstandingInDivination! Much appreciated.

Hi guys,
I'm the guy Hong Ky was talking about, are they really that strict on that rule? :(
Please tell me there is some leniency, it really sucks out to miss out like this :(

Sorry, if they put 50-50-50 as a prerequisite, there is no way they are going to be nice to you and give you an interview offer. Have you applied to other unis? Some universities do not have this rule (such as university of western sydney and university of adelaide (you should have your adelaide interview by now))
-

Sorry to hear that mate, but they are strict on rules :/
-
Nah, I only applied for UNSW and I think UWS, oh well, Actuarial studies it is.
-
Haha, it put my email in the junk folder. Got really worried for a second.
-
Cheers for clearing it up guys, hope those of you who received interviews do well!!!
Best of luck!
-
Good luck for the interviews guys! All of you will do amazingly! :)
-
Just letting people know that they email rejection letters too.
Sounds like things are different this year by the sound of it (in regards to the atar/Umat combinations)
Good luck for the interviews guys!
-
Are there more interviews for the same amount of places now or? This is pretty confusing
-

I would assume so, the number of places has definitely not changed.
-
Maybe monash just got a boatload of money, and will be having more seats for med next year...
This will definitely not happen :P
-
I thought the point of monash delaying the first round interview period was to narrow down the number of successful interviewees, by increasing the number of variables by which they were considered (for monetary efficiency) XD. Maybe monash just got a boatload of money, and will be having more seats for med next year...
OR (most likely), they dont know what effect this changed system will have, so they've decided to give out more interviews to act as a safeguard
Hmm your last point sounds reasonable!
-
I'm fairly sure they are basing it off the GAT as well this year. I received an interview invitation despite having a low low atar of 93.60 and a 95 in the UMAT. They said in their email that they based it off VCE results and not explictly ATAR. Got 44-48-49 on the GAT.
@abcdqd pls confirm
-
I was extremely shocked, got one with 91 %ile (57-60-65) and 98.80 ATAR, so I think they look at the GAT (I got 37-42-38)
-
Yes, I've been hearing GAT rumours as well.

Ask your careers teacher for us all, she's really knowledgeable in the goings of Monash Medicine (seriously, she knows so much LOL).
Also I wonder how they'd use the GAT when maybe other states don't have it (incl New Zealand)
-
If this rumour is true, I can't wait to see how the attitude towards the GAT changes LOL.
-
They couldnt have used the gat. My results for that were not so flash. They do say on the website and in previous emails that interview selection is based on atar and umat equally (as far as i know).
-
From what I can see on the interview system thingo, 432 interviews were offered. I don't know if that is more than normal or not though.
-
All these years I have been telling you guys GAT is the most important test of your life. HEHEHEHEHE :D
-

Seems about normal, which is odd.
-
maybe monash med wasnt as popular this year... apparently (makes zero sense, but hey, its the only legit explanation)
According to the age a few days ago it had an increased number of first prefs or something. Maybe it's just that less high ATAR people did well in the UMAT compared to previous years.
-

This thread is actually making me more confused by the second :o
-
Another theory: as they are offering what seems to be the "normal" number of interview places BUT have only yet offered them to Victorian students (noting that interstate Monash interviews are out on 10th Jan apparently), that is why the scores we are seeing are so "low" as it's the same number from a much smaller pool :)
So overall there will be more interviewees.
-
ahhh that's fair. pretty logical as well. But I still don't understand why the med faculty would want MORE interviewees. Wouldn't that just need more man power and funding to orchestrate? wouldn't it just be easier to have less interview spots and hence, be stricter with their interview offers, assuming the number of CSP, bonded and ERC spots are the same?
Yeah doesn't make much sense to me, but maybe this is their way of "favouring" Victorians? Really odd why they've offered ~400 already.
-
A reliable little bird told me that this new ATAR/UMAT change is due to demands from higher up. Maybe those powers that be also dictated more interviews? Either that, or the faculty has found a more efficient interview orchestration system.

If you read the email it gives suggestions on when interstaters and rural people should make the trip to monash.
-
Hi guys, I was just wondering if any of you knew how each of the three selection tools were weighted now? I was always under the impression that UMAT/ATAR determined if you would get an interview spot and from thereon in everyone was on equal footing? (tbh I'm not 100% sure on that though anyway so LOL)
It does seem a little bit odd Monash expanding their net so much this year, possibly placing less emphasis on testing and more on personal skills now? Very confusing LOL
-
If there's more weighting on the interview, I'd personally say that this is a very good thing and that Monash is making the right move here.
-
If there's more weighting on the interview, I'd personally say that this is a very good thing and that Monash is making the right move here.
Because? After a certain point I'm not convinced interviews are an excellent method of selecting candidates
-
If you read the email it gives suggestions on when interstaters and rural people should make the trip to monash.
Oh really, I've heard that not all ATARs have been released, not to mention IB and grades for New Zealanders and such.
If there's more weighting on the interview, I'd personally say that this is a very good thing and that Monash is making the right move here.
In the past the standard deviation for interview scores has been very low, which means it's usually been ATAR and UMAT being the deciding factors for MBBS places.
-
Because? After a certain point I'm not convinced interviews are an excellent method of selecting candidates
What the above poster said.
In my opinion, I think they're much better than UMAT and ATAR though, and so a combination of the three (with a larger weighting on the interview) is the most ideal case in this situation.
-
I think its more because they're (ever so slightly) shifting the focus of monash med off academic perfection, and towards increased inter-personal skills. Maybe they care less about marks, and more about the person's views and ambitions? Not sure. Just going to have to wait and see. I'll be interested in seeing the interview offer:course offer ratio. hopefully it will be low, for prospective med students' sake
I doubt that because one of the main reasons they aren't moving towards a graduate program like UoM and many other uni's is because they're getting "better students", ie. those with high ATARs, than in previous years.
And ambitions doesn't really come into the picture at all as most med students in my year don't even know what they want to do other than "be a doctor of *some* kind".
-
With the 50-50-50 rule for the UMAT, I really reckon that's cut down a fair few candidates that applied, I reckon you could get quite high overall in the UMAT with one section of 49 (or lower) and the others really high :-\ this would definitely have a marked effect on how selection has panned out. I guess they're looking for more rounded people with a min 50 across the 3 constructs and perhaps more weighting on the interview?
-
Thats probably it actually! Heaps of people who got 90+ UMATs probably got <50 in one section, which would have put them out of the running (a bit unfair but hey). That's probably why people with lower UMATs are getting interviews, because the proportion of people getting 90+ and >50 in each section is smaller than most people realise. Nice pick up Edward21 :)
EDIT: This is way more plausible than the gobbledygook I was proposing haha XD
Haha I only summarised what was previously suggested ;)
-
congratulations to all!!
could someone please post their email interview offer?
