so, i shouldnt mention what im going to talk about ie: register, social purpose etc

Typically, you use the intro to set the scene for the analysis. I've never heard anyone say that it's imperative that you signpost what you talk about, nor have I seen it done much. Give contextual information in the intro, then use your following body paragraphs to show how the language in the text relates to that context. :)
