Title: Further maths exam 1 - 2013 full score
Post by: mmlp2 on November 03, 2013, 12:38:24 am
Someone PLEASEEE give me a straight forward answer!!
so I recently did the exam 1 for further and got 40/40.
My ranking at school for further is 7/33 and my sac average is 82%
I'm the only student in the further cohort who got 40/40 for exam 1.
the person that was ranked 1st got roughly 36-37/40.

If i get 60/60 for exam 2, what would be my predicted score for further?
Am i able to get a 50?

Seriously no one would know but I hate it break it to you, if 36/40 was the 2nd exam score after yours and you're ranked 7th that really sucks. I'd guess around 44-45, even if you full marked the next exam..

I heard you can be treated as an outlier if there is a huge discrepancy in ones SAC and exam scores. Good luck, hope you're an outlier, although it is unlikely if there is only a difference of 18%.

the second highest score after mine was 38, just the person that was ranked 1st got 36-37/40

well if i do get 60/60 for exam 2, then there would be an 18% difference, so i basically have to get literally 60/60 to be considered an outlier!? great -.-

No. I mean, you could be considered an outlier, but I don't know what kind of discrepancy is required to qualify as an outlier. I read up on some notes about it a while ago.. forgot though. Either way, you can still do your best and get 40+ which is a notable score.. Do your best in exam 2 and you just never know  :) Speculation one day before the exam won't help.

Hey!
I wouldn't mind asking the same question...

I'm ranked 5th or 6th out of over 100, and got 40/40 on exam 1. im not the only one in my cohort though, who would have gotten full marks. There would probably be at least 5 others, if not more. If i get full marks on exam 2 as well...

estimated score? can I get a 50?

thanks!

Possible, but don't count on it. No one can actually tell you yes/no, but if you full mark exam 2 then you pretty much should get 45+ on exam 2 if the students above you are full marking/close to full marking.

You're in with a big chance if you full mark exam 2.

Anything is possible. We just don't know for sure, because it depends on the Exam difficulty as well. If its ridiculously hard, and no one gets near 100% but you do, then you are in for a big chance of getting a high score.

But regardless, if someone was to tell you that you can't get 50, does that mean you would just slack off? No, of course not! Get that 100% and you will get the Score you deserve. You can't change this, so just do the best you can. :)

Oh really? I heard this years exam 1 was one of the hardest, and that the whole state didnt do that well, so this increases my chances of getting a really high SS, good to know, thanks!!!

From what I've done (many, many, many practice exams), the vcaa multiple choice exams have been by far harder than this year.

I did Further last year. :) I found Exam 1 to be pretty good to be honest. Exam 2 was a bit harder for me though.

Also, whenever someone gives you a personal anecdote (and this goes for every ANer on here), remember that it was for a specific year. If a person was to repeat a subject and have the exact same SAC Scores (coincidently) for each SAC, and possibly had the same Exam marks across both years (Even more coincidental), they are guaranteed to have a different SS. I'm stating the obvious here, but its because people tend to believe that personal anecdotes happen again. BUT, I'm not saying that they won't happen again - I'm saying that its different every year.

As I said in my previous post, if someone told you that you weren't gonna get 50, you hopefully wouldn't slack off. Regardless of a prediction, you should always just keep studying until you think you are prepared, then do the exam and wait for your results.

In my opinion, predicting Study Scores is pointless.

I'm not attacking you or anyone else in particular, but I thought it was necessary to point this out.

How many did you do? I also think other years were harder.

15 exams 1 and 15 exams 2 just recently in the past few weeks. From mav, engage, hefferman and including vcaa. After doing stuff from other companies you really find that vcaa is holding back in some aspects. :P

tbh VCAA has reasons to hold back as they need to level the difficulty for all students, plus they also have to be very precise in their wording to avoid ambiguity.

This is similar to me.
I got 100% on exam 1, and for sacs i got 96/100 (I screwed up on one and it brought my average down heaps).
There would be around 5 other students in a cohort of well over 100. I assume that at least one would have got 100% also and most of them to only lose around 1 mark.
Also, my friend, ranked below me also got 100%

If i full mark exam 2, what study score will i most likely get?
Is it possible to get a 50 with only 96/100 for sacs?

I was also wondering what kind of score I should expect?
My sacs for the year average at 90% overall, which puts me ranked around probably 3rd-6th in a cohort of 70 students.
I got 36/40 on exam 1 and expect around 52~55/60 on exam 2.
Thoughts anyone? Thank you :)

49 assuming you're first ranked. Potentially lower if you're not.

What score could i potentially get i  got like 92 for sacs, 38/40 1st exam and on the second i havent found a mistake in my answers but lets just say 58/60. I was not ranked very highly, maybe top 25/100 students for sacs, is possible to get 40+ cause one sac  i did let me down (had five sacs that week:( )

any estimates or thoughts appreciated, also am i an outlier?

i hope that's right, but sadly i don't think it will be (nothing against you or anything :D) i would think 44 max due to poor ranking however im likely to be wrong, id like to hear other people thoughts as well, as long as i get 40+ ill be happy cheers

Your school had ~30 students score 40+ in further last year so given your exam scores you should definitely score 40+ if the cohort is of similar strength this year.

(assuming your predicted exam scores are correct)
