Title: going to university at a young age?
Post by: mozart on January 01, 2008, 08:22:23 pm
what do you all think of going to full-time university at the age of 16? is that too young or should this person wait till their 17-18. Just reasons concerning maturiy and social interaction which i think will be much harder for a 16 yr old to interact with 18-19 year olds who drive, smoke and drink (some).

Or would entering university at 16 give you a greater opportunity to succeed because of the amount of time you have to fulfill your desired outcome?

Finishing uni young or wait a bit longer and finish uni older?

I entered university at the age of 16. I am 17 now, and I am starting 2nd year university. It had very little impact on me. I have friends, ones who drink and ones who don't. The ones who drink and drive (not at the same time, mind you :P) go out without me. It's no problem, because I still have friends who aren't into that sort of thing, and there are always social gatherings at houses and BBQs where I will get invited to :)

I have a diversified group of friends: "popular" types, party-ers, nerds, geeks, etc. so I guess that makes things better.

At worst, you can just get a fake ID, but I have not taken that option.

coblin is like descended from blood of famous mathematicians like blaise pascal and einstein

This could be your 1/4 unknown part coblin.

Shouldn't be a problem at all...

...you'll find the circles that you fit into, regardless of age. If you like drinking, you'll find it ... etc etc as coblin said etc etc.

You might get into some administrative issues that require parental consent (as you can't sign off on things quite yet :P)...but they're usually once-off issues (eg., under 18s at Monash have to get their parents to sign some kind of declaration before they can use IT services).

How do you get to uni so early? Do you do another programme instead of VCE or do you just finish it really fast?

hrmm would starting uni at 16 open up more career paths and opportunities because of the amount of extra time you have to fulfill certain outcomes and things like that

Possibly, you'd have more time to do honors or a post grad degree, I guess.
