Heyy fellow vcd-ers!! As you may know the vcaa have created a 2013 sample exam due to the Study design being changed this year... Howeverrrrrrrr it seems that didn't put any solutions for the sample exam...
So I was just wondering if anyone could share their solutions.. :P Cheers!
Also so far my answers have been:
Q1.
ascender -1
baseline -4
descender -3
x height -2
Q2.
Planometric- box drawn to 45 degrees, with the circles turning into oval shapes
Q3. (I'm not sure how to do this one) I counted 22 squares on the north side, so 22000mm across?
Q4. (Just draw an Ace card?)
Q5. I'm fine with Orthogonal drawings. Also it's good how they added the dimensions! I hope it's like that for the exam :D
Q6.
a) Communication design
b)
- age group: 17-on wards (those who are most likely to attend graduation ceremonies i.e adults, family, friends)
- Medium-high socio-economic status
c)
- The use of warm colors + bold imagery (butterfly & caterpillar)
- Text (choice of elegant font)
d)
Generation of ideas: by doing visualization drawings, able to construct different concepts + ideas, as well as branching off into other genres.
Q7.
a)
pamphlet, billboard
b)
- Outlining considerations/constraints/needs in design brief
- Providing feedback
c) (I'm not sure how to answer this...please help :-[ )
d)
- copyright (e.g. existing logos, drawings, photographs)
- trademark?

3: need to dimension it as per vcaa's standards in the study design.
So you have the first dimension line for windows/doors, second for walls, third for overall measurement.
4: Drawing just an ace card would not be enough. I had a large diamond in the middle to put it first in the hierachy, then I had a balanced pattern of smaller diamonds on each side. You have to make sure you are meeting all the criteria they give you.
6:
b: Yeah I agree, I hope saying medium to high socio economic is not too much of a stretch though.
c) from what my teacher has told me this question is referring to visual devices (because apperantly they are in the study design).
some devices: Shock, humour, metaphor, emotion, branding.
For the VC:
Metaphor through the catterpillar turning in to the butterfly, conveys students development and change through schooling years.
emotion: I said the faded background was kind of sombre and sad eg: reflecting on the past fading away.

Thanks for the reply k-dog! ;D
Q3. I kinda get what you're saying, so would the dimensions look like this?:
22000mm
<------------------------------------------------------------>
3000mm 5000mm 6000mm 1500mm
<------> <----------> <----------> <--->
3000mm 3000mm 1500mm
<--------> <------> <---->
Q4. Gotcha, I gotta read the question better next time..
Q6.
b) >_< I'm probs gonna end up using it..
c) ahhh yeah I've heard about that! Just didn't know how to put it into context..
Well thought-out answers mate! ;)
I appreciate it!
