Title: VCE Results 2013 Countdown Thread
Post by: Stick on December 08, 2013, 04:38:07 pm
Surely 8 days isn't jumping the gun, is it? :P
Spoiler
If it is, feel free to lock this thread and I'll re-make it later.

VCE results are just around the corner and I'm sure we're all a giant mix of emotions at the moment. How is everyone feeling? :)

Personally, my emotions ride in waves. At first, I was more worried than anything and I kept brooding over errors (and potential errors) that I made in my exams and my expectations were in freefall. Then a sense of curiosity started to get mixed in, that I'll finally know after all this time just what numbers I'll be receiving. As we've gotten closer, I've started getting a bit more excited as well, since I really enjoy the atmosphere on the forums around results time and I'm looking forward to seeing others' happiness for their achievements. As someone who loved statistics in VCE Maths, I also like the whole numbers aspect behind it all too. I just can't wait to see what results I was capable of achieving after 13 years of schooling.

Feel free to use this thread to share the moment and ask questions.

For those who haven't yet accessed VCE results from http://resultsandatar.vic.edu.au/, this video might be beneficial in showing you what the interface looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMH64LCZRso

I still haven't read the exam discussion threads. I made a quick post of how I felt about the exam (and to mark it so I could come back later) and haven't looked since.

I'm still pretty annoyed at that last methods exam question with the k value and was able to keep that in check until I got some PTSD about it a few days ago. All in all, I'm feeling pretty confident but that's because I only had to worry about 2 subjects. I'm not having any definitive emotions at this point in time though. After my year 12 exams I still had my year 11 exams and then step up so I've still been occupied. As the date draws closer I'm not really noticing it but I know for a fact that Monday morning I'll be up along with everyone else in Victoria with my heart aflutter.

Next year though is going to be a rollercoaster and the knowledge that the end of it will be liberating is a nice thing to know.

ATAR = nerve-racking

I know for a fact that Monday morning I'll be up along with everyone else in Victoria with my heart aflutter.

^ exactly.

And just on this: I've been deliberately keeping busy to avoid thinking about the ATAR, but it still sneaks up on me, and then I drown in several 'what if's'. Usually use physical activity to stop me thinking about it - clean my room, vacuum.

I've also been keeping away from demoralising songs, like Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball. Makes me cry every time.

^ just a summary on my pre-ATAR routine for a laugh  :P

I'm so anxious about results day. I really don't want to set any expectations that could possibly demoralize me. At this very moment, to be as conservative as possible, I'm sticking to 40+ as what I want for Further and Biology, although realistically, I'd like more. Anyway, whatever I get cannot be changed, and I'll have to accept it.

I also drown in 'what ifs' and I really get myself worked up about it. Not so much about Biology, but more so about Further Maths. Even though I've actually checked my answers, and I know (based on the AN suggested solutions) that I've done pretty well, I'm still apprehensive. Biology I have only checked my MC answers, and I'm complete unsure about my expression in short answer.

I guess only time will tell how I've gone on these two subjects. Whatever it is, I'll be happy with, and then I'll get back to shifting my focus entirely on my 4 remaining subjects English, Chemistry, Mathematical Methods CAS and Physics, all of which I cannot wait to complete.

Good luck to everyone! :)

Dem feels.

Im actually so upset about further, i've compared my results for MC and all I can do is nothing and I will have accept what I get. Im so curious to see what I got for my other subjects hopefully they can save me.

BEST WISHES FOR EVERYONES ATARS AND YEAR 11's 3/4 SCORES!!

I'm going to a friend's birthday party the night before. Then I'm staying at his house over the morning of results coming out. I hope that helps deal with the inherent nerves of going onto the computer at 7 am to check scores. The mere thought of it sends chills down my back.

I can imagine the look of disappointment on my face when I see my scores. Sigh.

Out of curiosity, is it more important to hold rank 1 for sacs or a high sac score?

depends on the subject really. My mate got a 40 flat in chemistry about 3 years ago, and he got 1 mark above the A+ cutoff for chem in the mid year, exactly on the cutoff for end of year, and slightly above the A+ cutoff (very slightly) for sacs. It really depends on the subject. Probably a different story for maths subjects though, with the median being a bit higher and all.

Yes, for those without VTAC accounts, your PIN is your birthday (DDMM format).

Example: 9th July - PIN is 0907

Tbh I haven't really been thinking about it much, and I guess I prefer it that way until the results actually come out. Otherwise I'll just be dwelling on real/perceived mistakes which I can't change now, right!

Regardless, it's quite scary yet exciting that from tomorrow there'll only be a week left too results come out!

Good luck all :)

Everytime I see the number 24 I cringe.
2013: 20 + 1 + 3 = 24
Take the last digit of 2013 and multiply it by how many days left until results:
3 * 8 = 24
Take my literature result last year and add 1 year of improvement to it:
23 + 1 = 24
I can just see it happening... I am just waiting for a text message from VCAA with the number 24 on it, and having to tell my parents, siblings and friends how I failed two years in a row; how I can't get into any of the universities I was aiming for.

Being nervous about results is an understatement :(

Rankings matter more than raw scores for SACs.

I don't know whether or not this thread is a good idea....stress feeds on stress.  Please don't stress guys, as long as you know you've put in the effort and performed to the best of your individual abilities given your independent circumstances,  I'm certain you will be very proud of your ATAR s, no matter what the number says. It does not define you, it simply is used as an aid to get you into your course.

End of worried mother lecture.

No no. 4. LOL!

Can I impress upon you how bad a score of 4 is? Generally, you have a mean of 30 and a standard deviation of 8. 4 is around three standard deviations from the mean. Less than 1% of people would get a 4. Surely you're not THAT bad are you?

I'm absolutely terrified.

I have no idea what I'm going to get, but I REALLY (RIDICULOUSLY) HOPE that it will be 90+. I have been obsessed with the ATAR for the past 11 years, and I'm sorry to say that this year has landed me in hospital and therapy many many times. I can't explain to you how important this is to me. I know a lot of people describe it as "just a number that doesn't define you" but it means a lot more to me (for personal reasons). So yeah, I'm in the fucking foetal position right now and I don't know how to feel.

Good luck everyone.

Good luck to you, too! :)

A 30 in English will get me a 90 ATAR, which was what I was aiming for last year (but fell short), but I'm not too fussed about getting that. My main concern is getting the 25+ in English that I desperately need to get into any course at Monash/Melbourne.

As long as I'm in the course, I won't stress about my ATAR. It's just a number that I'll just look back at and laugh. My university scores will keep me occupied enough to forget about VCE.

I'm seriously freaking out. I feel sick all of the time. Half of me wants Monday to get here right now but the other half wants the world to end Sunday night so that it will never come! And I'm not just thinking about what marks I'm going to get, I'm thinking 'what in the world possessed me to think that doing three 3/4s in year 11 would be a good idea!!?' I was the only year 11 who did three and now everyone's expecting me to get high 30s low 40s but I honesty think I'll be lucky to scrape 35 for legal and English. Global politics is a write off so I'm not even thinking about the absolute catastrophic embarrassment that's going to be. Ew ive never felt like this let it end now please.

Are you currently in year 11 now? If not, don't worry, you have an entire year coming to aim high and help balance that out once again.

If you're in year 12, don't worry about the past and what you can't change, look forward and not back. The results you speculate on are pretty decent results in many peoples minds, of course its not the end of the world but it should be good enough to get you into a decent enough position to transfer if you happen to fall short of your aim.

Either way everything is ok!

Now for some reggae:

Hopefully the attachment below will clear things up. 11/12/12 was one whole week before the VCE results were available last year (17/12/12 if I recall correctly). I thought that this may have just been myself, since it was only one result from a subject whose exams were conducted very early in the exam period. However, I've asked a couple of others and they got the exact same date and time as I did. So, by now, our VCE results are more than likely ready. I'm not sure what else they'd be doing to prepare in this time.

As with many large scale things there is a buffer time that they have in case something does go wrong or for general finalisations.

In terms of the results day, you might want to wait a few hours after the initial release time if your body can handle it (lol). Server overload = longer wait times/lock out = pain to person. Both ways it's going to be a long day...

ATARNotes might generate a new record for the most online ever on that day too. Be there!

I can't be the only one who has boarded the DGAF train.

x.x
I've accepted what pathway I'm going to take to get into my dream course, and the ATAR's in the mid-80s, and my most pessimistic atar calculations have been above that, so no, I'm not too stressed about my ATAR anymore.
There are some subjects I'll be pretty cut about if I don't get a decent score in them, though.

I didn't mind at first but now that it's in less than a week, my expectations just plummeted. I was confident about my exam performance and my work throughout the year, but it all just hit me how easily I could fall short of my goals. My teachers have all told me what scores they expect from me and the prospect of disappointing them scares me. Well, more so, me disappointing myself since I had my own expectations. Hence I'm afraid of posting my estimate study scores / ATAR on that other thread LOL T_T

Anyway, good luck everyone! :)

Well from discussions about Simone Weil being accurate on the forums whenever you post I think that means you automatically qualify for a 50 in philosophy! Nobody understands Weil but you I swear XD she's just impossible to understand. I think you're pretty well set on the philosophy side of things from that alone :P

and how accurate are these reports?? haha

Haha thanks for your belief in me. :P I hope you get what you want. ^_^ I kind of wish I could board the DGAF train again but my school is having news dudes recording some of us opening our VCE results so I guess my ATAR will be public and in the newspaper :( So now I'm extra scared of disappointing myself but I guess it'll be a good lesson..?

Yeah I think every year on results day the news stations interview a certain school and since it's our first Year 12 cohort, we're being featured this year. They picked a few people to announce their ATARs x_X I was in a "why not" mood when I accepted the offer. You might see me on TV guys :P

^ That was a joke right? NOBODY CAN BE AN AGENT OF ORDER UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES. Her restrictions on freedom of expression, compared with liberty being also a vital need of the soul meant that order could never be achieved, since the liberty becomes so restrictive that it cannot be considered liberty at all!

Whilst her conceptions before the listing of the needs of the soul are rather intriguing, she absolutely butchers it in the way she suggests it to be implemented in the Needs of the Soul! Not to mention the unsupported premises in her arguments!

I think Weil tends to get shat on a bit more than is warranted, but come on, she was pretty lousy to study. Everything was either utterly abstracted from reality (the eternal realm of the soul) and difficult to apply to everyday life, or painfully obvious but entirely and annoyingly unjustified. (The obligation to help others in need if you have the means to do so is universal. Why? Do you disagree? No? Then nobody disagrees and it must be true. You do? Then you're mentally unwell and distinct from society at large and it's still true.)

Yes, that is why there is so much hate :P

Haha I agree that some of her claims are a bit 'out there', but the crux of her argument is solid. Weil was put into the course because none of the other philosophy even considered what is loosely referred to as the 'universal conscience'. When we see a baby getting murdered, we don't just nod and say 'oh, that's bad'; we feel something inside of us. In the Need for Roots (lol), Weil probes this seemingly inexplicable sensation, and, while her explanation for why this sensation exists might not appeal to everyone, especially those who have an aversion to all things religious, I think that she has much to offer. Her articulation of the needs of the soul, however, leaves much to be desired; I agree on that head.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by 'abstracted from reality', but I don't see what further justification she needs. Of course, if you take what she wrote literally, then some of claims might seem completely nonsensical. But I don't think she actually believed that there was a realm situated geographically above the physical realm, or the 'realm of facts' as she puts it, in which random 'obligations' floated around. The language she uses is, I agree, a bit odd, and she could have chosen other, less controversial, less religious terms to communicate her sentiments. As I said earlier, what she is trying to articulate is this thing which many people refer to as the 'conscience'. She doesn't actually use the word conscience as far I'm aware. She uses the term 'eternal destiny' or something, which may sound a little off-putting, but I don't think that she should be written off simply on account of her diction.

And just with regard to the last bit of your post, of course, no philosopher can possibly know what is the case for every single human being in existence. She is simply hypothesizing, or rather generalizing her own personal experiences. I think that every time we articulate a belief, such as 'murder is bad', we are doing just this. "Of course, everyone believes murder is bad. If you don't believe this, you are mentally disturbed in some way or other, and should be removed from society..."

Anyway, I feel I have derailed the topic. Although since this is the 'Countdown Thread', perhaps anything is appropriate...

EDIT: I'd just like to add, yes gosh, she was annoying to study!! Especially the 20 or so pages in which she systematically lists what she feels are the most important needs...

Considering how much I cared about it this year, I've surprisingly pretty much forgotten about VCE already. It's strange that after a whole year of thinking about this one number, now when the time has come, I don't really care. It's not that I don't care about my results; I put a lot of effort in and I am hoping for something high enough to get into the course I want, but I no longer see it as something that defines me. I imagine (or at least hope) it will be something I'll move on from quite quickly, as I hope we all will.

I myself like the ability to have good results published, if you do well why wouldn't you want your success to be a google search away for potential employers etc.  much better than some shitty fb photos coming up.

Okay so I'm in year 11 so this whole receiving marks thing is really new to me.

I've signed up for the text message, will that tell me my study score before or after scaling? Eg if I received a 35 but it was scaled to a 34 then would the text say 35 or 34??

Also will I get a statement of results in the mail the next day or is that only for year 12s? I was really interested in seeing how I did in the GAT (crazy I know since it counts for nothing).

Sorry for all the dumb questions!

Since you're a Year 11 student, it'll only tell you the RAW score for your study, you'll have to consult ATAR Calc when they update for 2013 for an approximation as to what it scaled to :)

Also will I get a statement of results in the mail the next day or is that only for year 12s? I was really interested in seeing how I did in the GAT (crazy I know since it counts for nothing).

As a Year 11 you will receive your GAT results in the mail as well. You will indeed be able to bask in the glory of that which is clearly the most important score of your entire life, and determine's your ability for absolutely everything the remainder of your life.

Remember, as Steve Jobs once said, "If you fail the GAT, you fail life".

I don't mind people knowing my results, but I'd much rather have them find out through me than go behind my back and then approach me with my personal results. I don't come from an Asian family (I'm a wog), but unfortunately it's all become a bit competitive amongst my cousins and myself due to the fact that many of us are very strong academically. It's not really us cousins ourselves, but more due to our parents and aunties/uncles. Knowing them, they'll go and search up my results as soon as they're readily available and I don't want that. In addition, there's enough people at school who will want to have a pry and I don't want that either.

As a Year 11 you will receive your GAT results in the mail as well.
They did?
Man, I never got to see mine.
Not that it matters at all, especially this year. I think I wrote a paragraph and a half for the second writing task.

If they do it again this year online, the Herald Sun will show you all the 40+ scores.
The website will be fine though, provided it doesn't crash again. And if you have all your deets.

No, quite thankfully.
I had a lot of dreams about stuffing up my lit exam though, before I sat the actual thing. Also a weird dream where they switched the order of the methods exams, so the tech-active was exam 1, and I didn't have my CAS. Also it was midnight, and the "exam hall" was just all our desks set up at that tram stop at the bottom of Elizabeth St next to Flinders St Station.  :o

Surprisingly I haven't had any ATAR dreams, but throughout the year I had so many dreams before receiving SAC marks back and I would always dream that I got something I'd be really disappointed with haha (but luckily it ended up fine in reality).

I remember specifically, in one dream, I dreamt that we received our Global Politics mock exam marks, and it was something like:

Me - 25/125

My friend (1) - 160/125

My friend (2) - 182/125

First of all Global Politics' exam is out of 80 marks, not 125. And secondly... Only after I woke up did I realise my friends got over 100% in the exam. Hahahahaha

I had one! Dreamt that for each school, the three highest study scores for each subject were announced on a live television program hosted by Bert Newton in a massive arena with a huge crowd and you would walk up these massive golden steps if your name was announced. I got a 48 in both English and Psychology... if only dreams could come true

Yeah, I've had two.

The first one, I opened up my results and I got an ATAR of 99.70, with study scores of 43 in English, 41 in Biology, 42 in Chemistry, 48 in Methods and 49 in Specialist. Now, if you put those study scores into ATARCalc, along with my 50 in Further, you get 99.70. O_O No, I did not make this up. Only in my dreams do the study scores and the ATAR actually correspond. XD I told my parents and they said that it's a premonition, but I am doubtful of the scores I received for Methods and Specialist.

The second one, I opened up the study score tab, and I got A+, A+, B for Biology. I didn't look at the rest of the results, because I was too upset.

i wish there were more ATAR reaction videos like this one

I have considered making one, but what's stopped me is the following:

2. I don't make a lot of noise when I receive my results. Last year, I just flapped my arms and bounced on the seat for about 5 minutes

The only VCE dream I had was before the final exams (I only had one 3/4, I'm in year 11) and I think it was set in an alternate universe.
Basically, it was a world where your SAC scores had to be at a certain level for VCAA to even let you sit the final exam.
In the dream, I was in my normal classroom and our teacher came in and said he had pretty high hopes for some of us in this cohort, but it turned out only one person in the class got through to be eligible for the exam. Then he said some people who were doing really well that he expected high results from ended up not getting through, and looked right at my friend and I and shook his head in pity.
Then my friend started crying and I remember thinking how the whole year had been a waste and after all that work, I ended up with nothing. Finally, I decided I would try really hard in my 1/2 exams, since they were all I had to live for.

all the way to:

'This is all my fault why didn't I try harder, why didn't I do more work. Now I'm going to go down in family history as a complete and utter disappointment and my parents won't even be able to look me in the face etc. etc. until I get a headache, feel tired and weak and need to lie down.

About the video that showed some dude getting his results- funnily enough I did that too. Depends on the course/uni/what score you actually got.

Generally the options are:
  • another uni which offers the same course but needs a lower ATAR
  • some sort of pathway program (e.g. Cert V, DoTs)
  • alternative course where you transfer into desired course after first sem/year
  • and of course SEAS saving you if you applied for it

Or option 5: repeat one or more VCE subjects at either TAFE, DECV or CAE. This will not only increase your ATAR score, but allow you to fulfill prerequisites.

It's the option I chose when I got below a 25 in my English subject and didn't want to go to Deakin university.

You'll be able to log in well before 7am (I recall getting in at roughly 6:30am). However, the results portal won't show up until closer to 7am. If you're lucky, it can come up before 7am, which is great since you'll get your results before the website crashes. :P Just keep hitting refresh. :)

Also, since you've completed English this year and have done four subjects in total, you will be receiving an ATAR, even though you haven't finished VCE yet. Isn't that interesting? :)

what does everyone mean when they say 'herald sun will post 40+ study scores earlier'
is it because we can somehow access tomorrows paper the following day at 12am?
omg that would be great

Last year, results came out at 7am on the 17th of December, but the Herald Sun newspaper (which could be viewed online) was up at midnight, so you could type in your surname and instantly know what 40+ scores you had (provided you chose to publish them).

I was a little disappointed tbh, seeing that my specialist score didn't come up on the newspaper and I only got a 42 in methods, but at least it gave me some sort of an indication of how I went before the rest of the results came out.

how rarely does vcaa make score calculating errors? just curious

I know there were two people on the forums who got the wrong study scores (one for Methods and one for Psych), so it's not ridiculously uncommon. It's more likely to be because of a mistake your school has made with submitting SAC scores than a mistake on VCAA's part though

I don't think they ever have, because they have a team of like 100 workers assessing each student and doing multiple checks to make sure that everything's correct .

I know its happened at least once or twice (at least in my failing memory it has), we had a few people on here chase it up a few years ago (i feel so old now).

Will they recalculate my 2012 Study Score again this year?

Your study score remains the same in both respects. The raw will obviously always be the same because they're just simply adding stuff up. The scaled will stay the same because its scaled in the year you did it, based on how difficult it was that year. It doesn't really make sense to scale it to a year you didn't do it in.

Could someone please detail the process of looking at your study score, not ATAR? I'm only doing one 3/4 this year and I have no idea what to do about it, like what website and such to go to? I have a student ID number!

Also, when you are doing a single 3/4 do they still mail out your SS and GAT out to you? I kind of want to keep it all secret until the end of year 12 ...

I recommend registering for a text message here, but I think the actual site you login to to access your results is resultsandatar.vic.edu.au

I fast-tracked last year, so hopefully I can help out a bit! Instead of having all of your subjects listed, you will only have the subject you fast-tracked listed on the resultsandatar page. It will say what scores you got for the three main outcomes (eg A, B, A) and then say what study score you received for that subject. Then next year, that subject will be again be on the results page (as far as I know), with your 3/4 subjects and ATAR. I hope that makes some kind of sense!

Hey all, just wondering if we're meant to receive a confirmation text from 19 787 888 when we sign up for the VCE results via SMS service. Because I texted the number three times and still haven't gotten a reply, and the VCAA website claims that "Students will receive a confirmation message after registering."

You should do, I did. About 20-30 seconds after I sent the text off, I think.
edit: to be clear, the text should literally just be [Student Number] space [PIN]

You need to have premium SMS services enabled; some providers disable it by default.

You don't know how well you did or didn't do yet. You may have full marked the exam for all you know, it's always a possibility.

Don't try and hide from your result, check it this week and if you did well congrats if you did less than expected just use it as motivation to go harder and correct your mistakes next year (benefits of doing in in yr 11, there's pretty much nothing to lose aside from 0.05 of an ATAR from a 5/6th subject)

Yup. I think it's a combination of how it's been nearly a month since I last did academic study, and the fact that I'm pretty secure in getting my 85 ATAR. It's like the more removed I become from exams, the better I feel about how I did in them. Straight after chem I was freaking out thinking I'd just marred any chance for a 30+, but now I'm feeling like I did decent in it, and in a pretty damn strong cohort to boot.
Way more excited than nervous for results day, anyway. We'll see how I'm feeling 24 hours from now.

Last year it was definitely a mistake, so it's unlikely they'll do it twice, as they could risk losing the right to publish the results at all if they did it again :P

I usually spend a few hours on the computer each day but lately it's been 2 or so max as I've been on holiday spending most of my time outside at the beach. Yesterday however, the weather was stormy, humid and horrible so I stayed inside all day on my computer until dinner time, mainly on ATARnotes just reading. It's weird but I look up and down, left or right and I get this really bad pain at the back of my eyes or eye sockets. Is this just eye strain and will go away? I've googled and alot of people have had it but I can't put my finger on whether it's sinusitis or eye strain etc.

“Herald Sun”, /ˈhɛr(ə)ld sʌn’/; adj.
1.   Procedural error, to commit faux pas by way of being improperly early.
2.   To make error, to fuck up entirely.
“David came to my party an hour before it started, it was very awkward. A real Herald Sun.”

I looked into it a bit back when I started getting into it, it's shockingly simple to produce "pure" (>95%) methamphetamine. Just getting the ingredients is the tricky bit. Would not surprise me a bit if a few self-styled Heisenbergs have come out of BrBa.

It's a shame there are only 10 episodes. But within that time, it doesn't really spoil anything but she actually has a multitude (more than two) personalities throughout the life of the show and it is amazing how well she just changes character. Not to mention how long all that make up, changing hair styles, perfecting accents etc. would take!

Usually not unless it's an odd story (eg. twins from MHS in 2011, girl from a low SES school in 2011, etc.).

In all seriousness, all the best for tomorrow all (I don't believe in luck :P ). I'm sure we would all reach our personal goals or if not we would use tomorrow as motivation to force ourselves to meet our goals into the future. I honestly feel like I could have gotten anywhere between 35 and 50 for economics--going to be interesting to see what happens.

Guys remember no matter what score you get tomorrow, you are not a number. Even if it isnt enough to get into your course its not the end of the world and there are other ways to achieve what you want in the end(via transfers etc). The whole score thing will probably only last week and you prob will forget about it and move on with your life afterwards. Good Luck All!

Will be raw.

You won't officially be sent your scaled until after yr 12. But you could find out your scaled by asking someone who got the same raw score in the subject (that got an ATAR and hence found out scaling) or you can check the scaling report which would be released by VTAC tomorrow to get an idea of how the subject scaled :)

Guys, I tried to predict my study score and it said 37+ but that's only if I got a minimum of 80% on the exam and oh lord *hyperventilates* I feel like it's not as well as I wanted, realistically, oh christ.

In all honesty, there's nothing you can do about it now. Any stress/anxiety now is a waste as there is nothing that can be done with such stress. I encourage you to try and take some deep breaths and sleep so you can have a clear mind tomorrow when the results come :) Keep in mind that you also have next year to make up for it if you're results didn't meet your own personal goals.

I'm sure it'll work out for you  :)

I'm certain the record is going to be broken around 7am.

You're lucky, haha.
I think I may have developed it when I was younger. I was in hospital and lost all my hair, and I used to go to run my hands through my (then non-existent) hair and scratch myself to the point that I would get little irritated dots on whatever I scratched, so I've been forever paranoid about things like that. Aaaaaaand now I'm itchy again.  :o

From what I've know on the resultsandatar website. View your VCE results gives raw SS and GA's and when you click on View ATAR you view the scaled SS and the aggregate for each subject and the total? Hopefully this is right ?

Yep, from what I've seen this is correct :)

Also, does anybody else sorta feel like it's Christmas Eve right now? I really feel like I'm 8 years old again, except instead of Santa it's VCAA and instead of presents it's all my hopes and dreams

FROM HERALD SUN:

GIRLS have triumphed in this year's VCE.

But almost twice as many boys have scored the top tertiary entrance rank.

Almost 47,000 students will start receiving their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank from 7am today - ending weeks of nervous waiting.

More than 97 per cent of eligible students have been awarded the end-of-school certificate, with the completion rate narrowly higher for girls.

Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre director Elaine Wenn said the average tertiary entrance rank was 65.4 for girls compared with 63.3 for boys.

Not entirely sure, but I think that they come all in one ranked from your lowest study score to your highest, along with your ATAR.

e.g. 95 = +5 (SEAS)
This is what I have heard.

SEAS adds to your aggregate level, not your ATAR. If you get 5 SEAS points, and you have an aggregate of 193 (for example), your new aggregate will be 198, and your ATAR will move from 99.00 to 99.??.

From Monash site:

Applicants are eligible for a bonus of up to 20 aggregate points...

I still don't know if I got 20 points :D :D In theory, I might have even got 99.95 haha :D but this new atar was only considered for only aerospace engineering and science even though I got 20 points extra :D

Let's start at 90.00 ATAR.
You're corresponding aggregate will be: 158.9

Adding +5 points onto this aggregate: 163.9
You're corresponding new ATAR is now: 92.15

We can see that this increased ATAR (by 2.15) is lower than if we just added 5 to our original ATAR of 90.00.

Do the bonus SEAS points only get added if you NEED them to meet your course(s) ATAR requirements?

Do the bonus SEAS points only get added if you NEED them to meet your course(s) ATAR requirements?
I'll give you an example from my experience...My first preference was bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and Science at Monash..I only got 88.90 whilst the required atar for this course was 92.?? or 93.?? So basically, minumum 3-4 points were added on top of my atar so I made it into my first preference. My second preference was Melbourne Science..I doubt their boost would be as much..because monash covers categories such as no english background and financial difficulty, which I had..on the other hand, melbourne only covers financial difficulty and rural areas...one of which I don't have...Hope it makes sense

If you see a blank page, or in Chrome, an error page reading something along the lines of "The server ended the connection without sending any data", this is good news. It means that the VTAC server is up and running, but they've just configured it to do nothing yet.
All going well, they should flick whatever magical switch necessary at 7am to start serving results.

For everyone who got what they wanted, congrats, i'm sure you definitely earned it. For those who didn't quite make it, calm down, its very far from the end of the world even though it might seem like it right now. There are an immense amount of options. We've had people come back from low scores, no VCE, failing english, etc and they all made it eventually. Have hope!

pretty cut right now
Got above the clearly in for the course I wanted, which is the important thing.
Got well below what I was expecting for lit, which is something I really wanted to tutor next year, do honestly feel like crying right now.
But yeah. I suppose I can't complain.

Same here. Like, I did really well on the one subject I had, but I'm not very happy because I was so bloody close to doing even better.

Whoever is doing VCE next year, I recommend not taking: VET IT, IT Apps and Food

VET IT 40 scaled to 33
IT Apps 40 scaled to 36
Food 41 scaled to 35

I'm absolutely shit stunned at how bad I did, I could have gotten the same score if I didn't even try: 58.10 atar :(

I know how you're feeling. I put so much effort into this year, more so than anyone else in my cohort, and ended up with an atar that may not even be high enough to get into the course I want :(

Means that more high study scores were spread around a smaller group of people. So I guess that does mean there were a group of very high achievers moreso than last year.

Actually, it's because to get a 99.95 this year, you needed 211.3 aggregate. That means that you needed to do a subject that scaled above 50. So more people got over 210 than previous years.

Also methods went up to 52 this year and basically everyone who did it last year would've got +2 scaled if they did it this year with the same study score.  if you did methods last year, you're gonna have a bad (slightly worse) time

I sincerely hope that everyone who sat a 3/4 subject is beaming with, pride, admiration and gratitude to the tremendous effort that they put in. You are all so inspirational and encouraging of each other that I'm so proud to call myself but one of a close community of 30, 0000 + members. The laughs, tears and shear madness of this year is an experience that I will forever hold in my heart. To all you amazing mods, admins etc who keep this site running, I feel like I owe part of my ATAR to you, because without AN, I don't know how I would have (well, a lot of us would have) coped throughout the perils and joys of VCE.

I wish you all the best of luck with the round 1 offers and for all your stupendous future endeavours.

The best is still to come.

My understanding is that scores only get scaled when you have an ATAR, so you wont know your scaled score until next year when you get your ATAR. I also believe it will be scaled according to the year you completed the subject in.
