Title: DUX?
Post by: ETTH96 on December 17, 2013, 06:46:42 pm
Was anyone on here able to dux any subjects? If so, which subject?

I'm so excited that I duxed psychology, i really worked hard for it.

Next year at assembly they will ask me to give a tip to the students stepping into vce and lower year levels, what should I say?!

Not trying to boast or anything, I'm just really happy because I never thought I was capable!

Congratulation! Maybe tell students how you studied psychology, sharing some study tips etc?

Definitely 40+, it really depends on the subject. Some were even 50 :)

How about your school?

My school's similar, for subject "prize winners" based on sacs and the trial exam, it generally varies between 40-50. But that person tends not to get the highest study score because a lot of pro kids just ceebs studying for something that doesn't affect their grades.
I just feel awks when people brag about duxing with quite low scores in we'll say quite weak schools. Not that I'm saying you're bragging at all or that 30 isn't a respectable score!

We had four 99.95s and four 99.90s :P

My school's dux was only 95.4. Pretty low ATAR for a dux, but still good.

Public school master race.

I was expected to dux methods and specialist, I was hoping to dux physics and software, I had no idea that I would dux english as well as all 4 of those (guess it was a bad year for english at my school, we usually perform far better in terms of 40+ scores).
I managed to get the highest ATAR with 99.8 too, so I was overall dux as well. Usually it's in the 99's, my friend got ripped off because he would have been dux most years with 99.2 but I was there this year.
I have to come back and give a speech next year too, about how to be a successful student and stuff.

I was the overall dux of my school. :) In terms of subjects, I'm technically outright dux only for Biology. However, I share subject dux for Chemistry, Mathematical Methods (CAS) and Specialist Mathematics. Someone did better than me in English (they absolutely deserved it though - I'm still shocked at my own English result, as I am with every result).

Try to give them the best advice possible for succeeding in the subject, and useful tips. I duxed Legal, but to be honest, I was expecting at least a 47 (not trying to complain! I still got a ridiculously high ATAR)

Congratulations.

Dux at my school was 99.6. She absolutely deserved it though, one of the most hardworking and genuine people ever.
Congratulations to everyone who duxed anything(:

might have Dux-ed for Chinese...(well according to the High-Achievers list in The Age and not everyone gives permission so..)...Hard to say though, I've finished Chinese School (for life, woot!) and there's almost no way for me to contact everyone else...

I'm surprised though, I expected someone else to have gotten higher than me, my score isn't ridiculously high.. :)

My schools dux got 97.75, huge jump from last years, who got 94.5
:)
Well according to the Age high achievers list I topped Business Management and Psychology! Not getting too excited yet though because there could have been someone who got higher, but didn't have their name published. I'll find out tonight at our Presentation/Valedictory evening I suppose.

I actually only duxed English Language. I was too careless in SACs.

School duces...well there were three 99.95s as mentioned above and at least 2 99.90s that I know of.

At my school, anyone who gets 99.95 gets co-dux of Scotch
Apparently Melbourne Grammar awards only one Dux based on aggregate

Yeah, my school definitely allows for duces, however our subject awards are given prior to the release of study scores, and hence go to the highest internal mark.

Got dux for overall, which was 92.70 (public school ftw!), fixed further last year with 45, duxed methods and spesh this year with 39 and 31 respectively.

I don't get this so if your number in your cohort and you get 1% on your exam and of your friends from the same cohort get a 100% you get his score?

not quite. its a rather complicated system with many variables. Sac moderation is certainly effected by rankings and exam performance, but if something as drastic as that happens, an enquiry would probs be made. check out the threads that explain this (as in sac moderation) better, since I'm not all that great at explaining such hardcore maths haha XD

I might have duxed Music Performance at my school, unless this other girl got higher than me but didn't have her name published. I wasn't expecting 35+, yet I got 41  :o my school hasn't touched the 40s for the subject in ages so... yay, breaking records ;D

Dux at my school got 99.6 :o 2nd and 3rd top atars were also 99+ wow.

HOLY FRICK. Wow. That's crazy. Private girls schools like PLC and MLC only have one 45 student.

Funnily enough I duxed English Language in 2013 and Chinese in 2012, my two worst subjects IMO.

Yeah It's quite unusual since last year (2012) the highest score was 43/45, yet in 2011 there were 3-4 45's. I think every two years the scores go down.

Sorry got it wrong, only 5 45's:

Median IB Diploma ATAR of 95.50
100% IB Diploma pass rate
5 IB Diploma students achieving highest possible result of 45 / ATAR score of 99.95
Median VCE/IB Diploma ATAR of 86.50
148 perfect study scores were achieved across 30 VCE/IB Diploma subjects
38% of VCE/IB Diploma students achieved an ATAR greater than 90.00

Also I have no fucking clue what thought process went behind the decision of making this graph

To show off to all the prospective parents, everyone knows pretty graphs are the best way to lure new students in :P

At my (public school):
DUX was 99.95 with 3 raw 50's in Eng Lang, Methods, Futher (yr11) and 46 raw in spesh (yr11 too :)))
(btw, he's not asian!)
I came next, and then we had three students all on 98.50 which for some reason I find quite funny HAHA

Personally I DUXed nothing this year :D Maybe Spesh, but that was coz I was ranked 1 and have a bad feeling all my silly mistakes meant our sacs scaled down this year... whoops.

Duxed legal last year and lit this year.
School dux was 99.1, with 5 students over 95. Pretty bad considering last years cohort had 16 over 95  ::)
