Just want to add I did not lose more than 1 mark for any question, so one assessor kept giving me full marks and the other taking one mark off (alternating between questions, I assume). Shows how picky/lack of clear, consistent marking criteria there is for humanities subjects.
Hey guys need some help here:
I got 91/110 for biology, 2 marks off an A+ and I only got 38?? Why didn't I get 39???
Why are you so mad? You can't change anything and you found your marks out like a month ago and a 38 is a great score / shouldn't tell your brother not to do it because you lost marks. You go to the VCAA website, print out a sheet and fill out some details, costs like $20.
P.S. How do you get a 'statement of marks' people?

I'm so fuc**** pissed, I missed out by 1.8% and the marking was horrendous. In four questions, one marker gave me full marks while the other gave me none, I lost 8 marks because of that, EIGHT.
Also I heard that in chemistry/physics markers 'give you marks', unlike biology where they want to take them off.
Biology
GA1: 92 raw (MHS) scaled to 99
GA2: 92 raw (MHS) scaled to 100
GA3: 205/220
SS: 48
FU** I was so close. Looking at the statement of marks, for FOUR questions both markers gave me different marks, one gave me full and the other gave me none. Biology is the most stingy fking subject ever, if I had two markers that marked the same I could have got 98/110. On the other hand, if I had two markers that marked harshly, I would have got like 84/110 and not 91. Far out biology not going to recommend my lil bro in doin git.Yeah, I lost like 5-6 half marks... pretty dodgy, but there's nothing you can do about it.
would you happen to know the exam mark range for the Biology Exam that got you a 48?They didn't say, but considering how competitive it is at the top end I'd think you scored around the same as me, give or take one.
How do you know if one marker gave you full marks and the other gave you none?Yeah that's what we got as well for bio. I think he means losing half marks. eg. question is worth 4, but doublemarked so its out of 8. If you get 7/8 obviously one assessor gave you 3 and the other 4.
On my statement of marks, I only got what the two assessor gave me combined. Eg. 8/10 meant anything from (4/5; 4/5); (5/5, 3/5) etc.

And then a couple of two mark questions I got 1/2, so one marker gave me the mark while the other didn't.
Oh; sorry I removed my response (cuz I thought after it was quite unnecessary) before you got to respond.
But that still doesn't explain how Rod knew that one assessor gave him 0 marks and the other 8 marks for one question. I mean if, like you say, Bio SOM scores are combined one can only speculate if the marks were 4 and 4; 3 and 5; 2 and 6 etc...
Plus, Rod if are complaining about 'half marks" I got 8 "half marks" taken off for my 3/4 (ie. lost all of my 8 marks over 8 separate questions) showing that for writing/expression type subjects (like Bio, Eng, Commerce subjects) inherent subjectivity exists. But ultimately, I think this inconsistency is "balanced out" in that if the assessor who gave you no marks for that question continued in the following questions to be an tightass in marking your paper (compared to the other 'nicer' assessor) your marking would be reviewed by a third assessor who will try to get your mark to within three marks of either of the assessors. This means your exam score was actually verified by at least two assessors.
Yeah all good I'm kind of over it now :). But I still have one more query in regard to my SS, I was 2 marks away from the 40 SS and I got 38, does that mean the 39ers of bio all got 92? Unlikely... My cohourt couldn't have brought me down because my SACS for each GA got scaled up by 15 marks.
Thanks for all the help guys! Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday, good luck for this year :)
Tl;dr VCAA humanities/writing subject marking =not infallible but in the end, you get roughly what you are worth (in terms of your skill etc.)

What do you mean 40 cutoff? A+ is not a 40. You could get 3 A+s and still get a 38.Ohh god I'm so confused. Doesn't a 93/110 put you in the top 9% in the state???? So woudn't you get 40 if you got 93??
Ohh god I'm so confused. Doesn't a 93/110 put you in the top 9% in the state???? So woudn't you get 40 if you got 93??A 40 is top 9% as far as I know (it's definitely not top 10), and besides, it's not the only assessment there is.

I'm still confused, sorry, I don't get you.If I recall correctly:
So yes, I know to get a 40 you need to be within the top 9% in the state. The statement of study score shows that an A+ cut off is 93/110, isn't that also the 40 SS cut off?
Sorry for all these questions....
If I recall correctly:Yep I fully understand now! Thank you psyxwar!
A+ = top 10% of the state
40 = top 9% of the state
But even if they were equal, getting an A+ on the exam doesn't guarantee a 40, since you have 3 graded assessments (with the exam being weighted 60%)
I've decided I really need to order my statement of study score for chemistry, I just have to know what happened to my SAC marks haha, I will pay the $9.10! I already got the statement of marks but I may as well find out as much as I can while I've got the option, when's the latest you can order them? Was it February?
Mine came in like four days including the weekend. The latest is Feb 14 to apply.Feb 14, how romantic of VCAA..

It was probably this:
GA 1 : 100/100
GA 2: 100/100
GA 3: 120/120 (is that what chem is out of???) XD
any1 have any idea for the cut-off scores for methods just wondering? dropped 11 marks for certain and got better than expectedExam 1 A+: 36/40
SpecialistUgh. I'm aiming around there for specialist. Feels like I'm doing further again where every little mark counts.
GA 1- 99->99
GA 2- 38/40
GA 3- 76/80
SS: 45
Does anyone know why my unit 3 SACs scaled up, but my unit 4 SACs scaled down? (HHD)Was there a big difference between your SAC scores? If your unit 3 score was low, and your unit 4 score was high, the scaling could bring them closer to a middle point.

Further Mathematics
GA1: 96 ~> 100
GA2: 80/80 (40/40)
GA3: 120/120 (60/60)
Study Score: 50
What a big surprise! =p
Mathematical Methods (CAS)
GA1: 95 ~> 100
GA2: 74/80 (37/40)
GA3: 155/160 (77.5/80)
Study Score: 48
I lost more marks on Exam 1 than Exam 2... interesting...

I sent a Statement of Marks application for my VCE English examination last Thursday by email and it still hasn't arrived. Is this normal?
English
Total exam score: 52/60 (A+)
Study Score: 46
Section A: Text Response - 17/20
Section B: Context - 20/20 (wtf o_o)
Section C: Language Analysis - 15/20
Got my statement of marks and achieved 60/60 on the English exam (I got a 50 study score)! What are my chances of getting a Premier's award given that I did not achieve full marks on SACs?Did your SACs scale upwards to 100?

I've got my statement of marks back for legal. How can you tell what sac scores scaled to? Where does it tell you?The Statement of Marks shows you the marks you received for every question.
The Statement of Marks shows you the marks you received for every question.
If you want to see your scaled SAC score, you need to get a Statement of Study Score which goes through how your SS was calculated.
Sorry, I meant I got my statement of study score. I actually got both :)
On the study score statement there should be the words "Yours scores in x and the associated calculations are as follows" towards the bottom of the page.
Under that you see Courework Unit 3, Coursework unit 4 and the examination (for most subject). For SACs you can see it lists a school score (i.e. the raw score), and a final score i.e. the scaled score.
Oh ok, thanks!! I think I was just confused coz the scores stayed the same... It was 100 and 100 for ga1 and ga2, but I expected it to go down because I was in a weakish cohort. Maybe it's a ranking thing? I dunno.
You must have been rank 1 and full marked the exam? congrats.
don't know about any of the standardised score things unfortunately.
Dumb question, but what do the standardised score and weighting X standardises score columns mean? Can't make sense of any of it..Study scores and graded assessments with large enrollments have results which usually follow a bell curve.

Most students will score in the middle (that's why it's highest there), some students will score very high (to the right end of the bell curve) and some students will score very low (to the left of the bell curve).
You receive a standardised score for each graded assessment task of your VCE subject.where x is your result.
A standardised score of 0 means that your result was exactly the average of all scores. A standardised score of 1 means that your result was higher than approximately 84% of the state (if I can still do further lol).
You'll get 3 standardised scores for each GA, which will then be weighted then totalled to get your final weighted score, which will then be used to give you a study score.
Hopefully that quick explanation makes sense.
