Title: Probationary license: turning technique query
Post by: aestheticatar on January 17, 2014, 12:55:06 pm
Hey guys,
I have my P's coming up soon (VicRoads Oakleigh South) and I was wondering which turning technique is allowed in the test. I have been taught different techniques by different instructors;

- 'hand-over-hand' (arms cross)
- 'push-pull' (arms do not cross)

I hope you understand what I'm on about! VicRoads employees told me to do what feels most 'comfortable' and 'safe' for me, as long as I 'obey all road rules'. One of my instructors told me I will fail for using the hand-over-hand method.

But, which one did you guys use or recommend using in the P's driving test?

Thanks a tonne! :)

My dad's a driving instructor, and I can assure you that they won't fail you for steering hand-over-hand lol. Just do whatever is more comfortable and makes the drive easier.

One thing to definitely avoid though is dropping your hands beneath the steering wheel when you make a turn; try to keep your hands at the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions as often as you can.
