lol. I'm going to the Methods and Economics one from TSFX, starting from the 7th (this monday) from 1.30 - 5.30 :)
I'll tell you guys how it goes :)
-
Hi guys,
Does anyone know how the TSFX intensive 10 week programs compare to other companies in terms of cost/quality. I checked the website but there is not a lot of information about the program at the moment.
Thanks. :)
-
Just went to day one of TSFX methods. It was pretty darn good :)
Fully explained common student mistakes, exam tips and tricks and others coupled with 80 pages of brillant notes :D. However, TSFX is not all that's cracked to be, unlike the brochures. lol
-
TSFX intensive 10 week programs are pretty damn expensive.. but they are worth it if you get the right teachers.. the notes are basically the only things you need at TSFX. that's all they use in the classes.. go through the book and qs. Except for 1 person.. Byron for Chemistry. He's the best Chemistry teacher ever from my point of view. He teaches his own way and leaves things out which he is pretty sure would not be in exam and it didn't end up in the exam. If you are going there for Chemistry get Byron. For other subjects im not too sure.
But yeah.. basically $600 for a couple of books.. not worth it but getting the right teachers would certainly be worth it because the notes are basically summarising the important parts of the textbook.

I second your support for Byron. He has had unanimous support out of all the TSFX teachers I have had. That said, however, TSFX have a pretty good team all around. The more unmentioned and less popular teachers are definitely still good quality teachers, but maybe not completely worth your money.

legal tsfx 2daii waws very gud
-
legal tsfx 2daii waws very gud
might need english tsfx
-
legal tsfx 2daii waws very gud
might need english tsfx
Ouch
-
ya... ouch ??? watever you say. haha and it's quite funny since this isn't being assessed and i don't need to write with perfect puntuation/grammar/spellings and it saves time for me :D
rofl if you think that's out ^^, well you kind of need to go out ;) no offence
-
dude i was clearly kidding mate. do u need a tissue?
tsfx has quite a lot of hot chicks though.
-
it saves time for me :D
legal tsfx 2daii waws very gud
length(2daii) = length(today)
length(waws) = length(was) + 1
length(gud) + 1 = length(good)
So your benefit in terms of characters is 0, and your cost is that you look like a retard, LOL :)
-
it makes me look retarded over the net using shorened or in your case lengthened words ??? umm yerr, right doesn't really bother me ;) i like the way i talk over the NET which obviously does not require the attention of others because for literate people the words are easily recognisable :) not saying your illiterate; just a little online thing, no need to stress over it buddy.
-

actually literate people would prefer proper language, as they know the way it should be done
its the illiterate who wouldn't worry, as they know the words for the sound, not the word for its written form.
-
as i said i don't really care how i right online because the majority of people understand what i am saying however a minority like to question the arrangment of letters that i put together even though they cearly understand what i am saying.
overall i don't really mind if you think the wording is retarded because at the end of the day, it means nothing to me :) i already know you understood it and there's the main point.
so if you don't like my writing it's ok, and if you think im illiterate because i write differently online being this is not an assesment task or a SAC or and exam that i should be caucious of, well that's also ok but just don't get all stressed and worry about it and think about it all day as it won't do you any good. Just a bit of advice there ;) life goes on...
-
I'm clearly not stressed.
dude i was clearly kidding mate. do u need a tissue?
You seem like it though ;)
-
yer im really stressed i might just go and apply for english tsfx .. cough**
;) thnx for the advice
-
Just went to Economics TSFX.
It was awesome as. Bloody awesome :)
The lecturer is an examiner and told us some really nice advice of getting high 40s in econ :)
-
Children, children, settle down.
Mozart - Whilst we respect your right to type however unintelligibly as you please, be aware that you will cop flack for it.
Coblin - Perhaps retard was a little harsh. Tbh, I see where you're coming from and I probably would've done the same, but just respect his right to look like an idiot.
Now, let's move on to the topic at hand...
I went to TSFX once for methods, and one summer school for Chem. I didn't pay any attention to methods because I didn't need it (I'd already done WAY too much revision). I stopped going to the Chem summer school because it was boring me to tears. TSFX sucks.
-
;) sumarised well enwiabe, and now to actually talk proper english :D
-
It's hard to concentrate because TSFX has lots of hot chicks. :2funny:
...they need more breaks ;)
-
...they need more breaks ;)
breasts*
-
You like the mutants?
Personally I prefer the ones with 1 instead of 2.
-
no offence guys but this thread is about tsfx, i don't know about everyone else but I really don't want to read your argument over online wording...why don't you message each other.
In regards to TSFX i've heard that its ok but there are other ways to spend that money which could benefit you more ;)
-
tsfx is so expensive though! i might go for the end of year lecture for economics... i'll see nearing the date haha :)
-
just finished legal tsfx for the second day, the girls name was latsansis or something like that and she was very good. i suggest you all go to LEGAL TSFX !!!!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!! ...... that is if you're doing legal ;)
Moderator action: Moved post to TSFX thread, instead of TSSM. (coblin)
-
o
It's hard to concentrate because TSFX has lots of hot chicks. :2funny:
...they need more breaks ;)
only on weekends though :S on weekdays there'll probably be 1 in both TSFX levels.
-
I didn't get the problem of hot chicks when I did Methods masterclasses at TSFX...it's a pretty fast paced course, which I found to be very good reinforcement to what I was already learning in school.
That said, some might be a little put off by the pace of the course.
-
I am hoping to get Byron Jones for Chem next year
-
I am hoping to get Byron Jones for Chem next year
its hard to officially get in his class but you can just go into his class without being enrolled in it. he doesn't care whos in his class as long as you don't talk.
-
shut up mao
-
u shut up
-
shut up mao
what did i say =\
-
lmao.
-
shut up mao
-
I must warn you, denigrating other members for no reason whatsoever can result in bans. Please do not continue.
-
TSFX is good. costly but good. end of story.
-
Who's going to the Methods (non CAS) september holiday lecture at TSFX. I have never attended any of their lectures except the free ones but are they any good. I've heard people say that in general any maths lecture is not worth it but i think TSFX live up to thier potential. Is it worth it though as it is pretty expensive and i dont want to be throwing my money away.
thanks
-
bump
-
question... has anyone got their tickets yet?
i send my order form like... maybe a week or almost 2 weeks ago... and yeah (i've totally never organised to go to any lectures before) should i call them and ask if they got my order or just wait it out?
-
I haven't received my tickets yet either! What's going on? :P
I'm going to wait for it until mid next week. If they don't send me anything, I will call them in a very angry tone. :)
-
Mee too :(
On the form it says:
Admission documents, maps and confirmations will be sent by mail during the week commencing Monday 8th September 2008.
Grrr, they lied :P
-
Lol, they did! If anyone else has received theirs, I would be so annoyed. :)
-
yer im really stressed i might just go and apply for english tsfx .. cough**
;) thnx for the advice
why you crying for?
-
just say i've done little work for a subject such as methods all year, do you think that attending the methods TSFX lecture will teach me everything i have to know or will their lectures prove to only be as guides.
thanks
-
They will be a guide. They can't possibly fit all that material in a few lectures.
-
anyone going methods CAS or bio? =]
-
just say i've done little work for a subject such as methods all year, do you think that attending the methods TSFX lecture will teach me everything i have to know or will their lectures prove to only be as guides.
thanks
Imo, i think its more beneficial to have a good understanding of the whole course when you attend those lectures.
They will probably go over every topic, but that alone will not be enough to teach you everything you need to know.
So if it was me, i would go over the whole course myself first. You dont necessarily have to spend hours and hours on it. Going through it briefly is still better than not going through it at all :)
So then when you attend the lecture, you will understand what they are talking about instead of getting confused.
TSFX also likes to give examples of some more difficult questions, and to fully understand them and make the most out of the lecture, you should know all the basics.
-
yes, most likely be a guide, but theres probably some quality notes.
tsfx needs to hire this guy that teaches calculus in 20min haha

-
Im going to the bio one at TSFX, apparently its really good, my mate went to the TSFX lectures for bio midyear and she got an A+!
-
Yay, I finally got my TSFX ticket in the mail. It took forever to send it! :P I'm going to methods, specialist and a few random English lectures (and a free analysis buster lecture for methods..I want over 20 :))
-
who went to TSFX english today? i went to language analysis which i thought was fantastic aswell as genral text response and A man for all seasons. I must say AMFAS was absolutely terrible i learnt nothing from the lecturer, it was really really bad. Does anyone else think a man for all seasons was terrible?
apart from that i found the other 2 very beneficial

I second that ;D
I was stuck with this lady lecturer (group 2 medical building) for analysis of language and she was absolutely terrible!
-
Anthony coyne he was brilliant. i wish he was my teacher.
-
I went to Coyne for Language Analysis and General text response and then (unfortunately) that chick for AMFAS.
Coyne was brilliant... learnt so much. As for the lady doing AMFAS... dear me.
Oh anyone in the general text response lecture... might have seen me considering that Coyne picked me out of the audience (WHYYY????) to answer that question he asked at the end about YES-NO-HOWEVER
lol... oh god that was embaressing.

i KNEW he was gonna choose me. i was trying to hide. i had a 6th sense.

-
I didn't know there were 2 of the same lectures running at the same time :P
I was stuck with this lady lecturer (group 2 medical building) for analysis of language and she was absolutely terrible!
Agreed!! ii also had the lady :(
Costa, what room were u in for AMFAS?
-
that one in the medical building with andrea something. blonde lady. I was like 2nd or 3rd row
-
that one in the medical building with andrea something. blonde lady. I was like 2nd or 3rd row
LoL i was in that one too :P
But at the back somewhere.
I reckon she was quite ok.
But lol @ when she was telling people off for talking and told them to leave if they were to continue :P hahaaa
-
loool. i dont know. i already have a (in my mind) pretty good understanding of the text... she didn't really bring up any new points in my mind.
thats just my opinion.
lol yeh everyone was so restless!
-
ohhhhhh i see.
i went in there knowing like nothing :P haha
And yeah, i guess some people might have been getting restless coz they've had 2 lectures already.

lol the guy with the stripey red shirt... i saw you again at AMFAS! I knew you looked familiar (VN photo!) I don't know why but i have a preference for male lecturers... today confirmed this! Anyways, i hope tomorrow lecture on identity and belonging would be as good as today's general text response :D

EDIT: Lol... I just remembered... Stripy red shirt! Yes Costargh, you are famous! :P
-
Anthony coyne he was brilliant. i wish he was my teacher.
WTH... I'm so telling Mattcot you said that. Nah he was alright, apart from the repeat jokes. At least he didnt say every 10 seconds: 'you starting to get this yet?' about some obscure japanese proverb that he learnt on one of his trips to greece from a women who could talk to spirits which is relevent to analysing how visual images can position the reader and which also complements some lame year 10 handouts for a SAC on the crucible which he probably thinks is a film. Oh dear...

LOL HAHAAHAHHA so true
-
Did anyone go to any of the context lectures today?
I didn't go but i'm thinking about going in October.
Was it useful? Is it worth it?
-
i spoke to droodles about it. he thought it was the worst thing ever.
quote from his msn nikname
"TSFX CONTEXT WAS DOG SHIT"
-

lol....... it was the worst lecture i've ever been to.. such a waste of time. I left after the first break (and I think most people did).. the lecturer was extremely boring - it was extremely painful, I just couldnt wait to leave.
-
Andrea Hayes: "So before we begin, I just want to let you all know that I'm not here to correct any essays nor lend you any spare change"
21 year old muzza in the back: "WELL THEN SHUT UP"
Andrea Hayes: "How does one be true to one's self?"
21 year old muzza in the back: "DRESS 2 IMPRESS"
Andrea Hayes: I have a tool for you to use in order to help you develop your context pieces, 'MAPS'.
21 year old muzza in the back: "HAHAHA NICE ONE YOU GET PEOPLE TO DRAW FUCKING MAPS"
-
Ohhhh...:P
Hmmm, was it the content that was bad? Or just the lecturer?
How are the notes?
-
It was probablly a mix of everything - the lecturer, notes and venue.
The notes are OKAY.. but they aren't anything that I'd pay $30 for.
Overall, it was mainly the lecturer - he was just so bland and talked really slowww :(
-
thoughts on the AMFAS lecture room yesterday?
I was shit scared. lol it was so steep and old and yuck. i felt clostraphobic. and i was so uncomfortable.
Really intimidating lecture room,
-
Was it in the Sunderland theatre (Medical building)? That was where my context lecture was.. I didn't like it either.. the Copland theatre is much better.
-
Hmm, so would VATE be better than TSFX?
Those two are the only ones that i know of that are still running.
-

Encountering Conflict, right? The only glimmer of entertainment I had managed to decipher from this guy was when he said 'Thank you for having me and thank you for asking me to speak'. I swear, I lost it! It wasn't the 'thank you for having me', but rather, the mixture of 'thank you for asking me to speak', and everyone clapping thinking the lecture was actually over with half an hour still remaining! I didn't learn anything I didn't know though. :(
-

Yeh its in the medical building cant remember what it's called. the one in eco and com building is good though

I've heard good things about VATE.. although I don't know how it compares with TSFX.

LOL yeah it was that guy. So did you stay after the first break? I presume it didn't get any better?
-
LOL. i was totally in encountering conflict lecture.
that was freaking hilarious when he was reading the speech "thank you for coming..." while people were leaving.
umm.. i like the tables better in the medical center than in the commerce and economics building.
and the guy was pretty boring...in fact all the lectures i've attended, i feel have wasted by time. (totally takes me like an 1 travel time!!)
i can't believe i have to go back next week for economics... :(
-
dude the one in the com and eco building was my one, identity and belonging. something died inside of me during the first 15 mins
probably your willingness to stay awake. those seats are damn comfy.

agree.

Lol, that is nothing compared to what I have to endure next week. Monday to Sunday I have mathematics lectures! Monday to Wednesday, I've got spesh, Thursday to Saturday, I have methods and Sunday I have methods analysis buster lecture! Kill me now... Especially because it's maths... :(
-
Anyone going to the Bio and Chemistry ones?
-
This forum has unfortunately gone dead. :(
-
Does anyone know what the difference is between TSFX Series 1 lectures and Series 2 lectures?
Are series 2 lectures like a shortened and less detailed version of series 1?
If you went to the accounting or methods lectures, what did you think of them?
Are they worth it?
-
Yeah, the series 2 lectures are shortened, less comprehensive lectures as opposed to the series 1 lectures. They are less expensive though. I guess it wouldn't hurt. :). But the distinct disadvantage is they are so close to exams, so their purpose is quite ambiguous (love that word :)).
-
Hmmm I'm not sure "ambiguous" works in that context. lol
-

Hmm, accounting lecture is on 25th Oct, and exam is on 6th Nov :P
Yeah, guess it is a bit close...hmmmmm
I'll probably wait until closer to that date, and see how well i know the course by then :)
-
I was just looking on there website..
does anyone rekon the summer school for units 3 are going to be helpfull?
the subject i would be going for are
English, furhter, accounting and business
Is it worth doing or am i wasting my money/time??
anyone got any advice??
cheers nathan
-
I'd say preparing so early is quite useless. I did solid work throughout the year for BM before each SAC, neglected it for the last month and now by the exam, I've forgotten it all. I'd say a large majority of VCE really comes down to the last few months (sadly) and I really doubt going to summer school will be beneficial. Especially for relative easy subjects like yours, I don't think you'll really be needing any concepts explained or anything so yeh, save your money and time (your most valuable resource) and just stay home and work :]
-
if you're a lazy person than i'd recommend the summer schools.
if you're a dedicated person, passionate about your subs. then dont go.
-
thanks heaps for the replies!!
just looking on that and ttssm site what is the 12week programs like throughout the year??
would the be beneficial at all??
its just i was looking at notes i am getting and work i am getting compared to a friend from a private school and theres a HUGE difference..
-
i don't think that you should go to TSSM. i know two people who went to their final revision lectures, who were so bored that they nearly fell asleep.
