Title: Commerce: too late to change majors?
Post by: acciodraco on August 04, 2014, 10:49:15 pm
Hi,

I'm in first year second semester commerce, I haven't done any accounting subjects (except for PBL which is a req for accreditation). This sem I'm not doing any acc subjects but if I were to, the only one I can do is ARA (pre-req for the others). I'm just wondering if anyone could give some insight on what the best option/pathway to take to be able to major or do accounting (e.g. take up summer subjects, doing a diploma/masters etc idk). I was thinking because I've already done some other level 1 subjects, I'm afraid I won't have space to do the basic acc subs. Anyway, whatever general advice would be appreciated. I don't know what to do.

Thanks

You can still change subjects now and ARA will give you a taste of what accounting is like. I believe that taking up summer accounting subjects is probably the best thing to do at this point if you want to pursue an accounting major.

If you're going to finish ARA this semester, take Intro FA during Summer then APA and perhaps Intermediate FA for Semester 1 2015. You're not really too late to do an Accounting major, but it's a matter of whether you have any space left on your study plan. Consult the Commerce Student Centre to help you adjust your study plan accordingly.
