Title: Summer School Subject 2015
Post by: LOLs99 on August 10, 2014, 12:24:06 pm
Hi  :)

What is the process of enrolling into 1-2 summer school subject and any pre-req?
Do u recommend doing 2 summer school subjects?
I was thinking of choosing between foundation of electrical networks and engineering maths.
Any response would be appreciated
Thanks!

Definitely do FoEN. It will allow you to take ELEN30011: ElecDeviceModelling and ELEN30012: Signals and Systems in 2nd year as opposed to 3rd year if you take Eng Mathematics in Semester 1.

1. Are ELEN30011 and ELEN30012 compulsory for Master of Mech?
2. I'm presuming there will be 2 x2hours of workshop instead of one hour workshop so is it going to be a pretty hardcore subject?
3. Do u recommend doing 2 subjects during the summer or overloading 1 subject during sem 2 in 2nd year and overloading another subject in sem 1 3rd year? Does this mean I can finish in 4.5 years instead of 5years?

3. You won't be able to finish in 4.5 years. M.Eng (Mech) subjects are only run in specific semesters, so it doesn't work logistically. Believe me, I've tried.

1. I didn't realize you were going for Mechanical. There is less incentive to take a summer class unless your ballsy enough to do Eng Mech and Eng Maths at the same time. This is because taking Eng Mech will allow you to start 3rd year Mechanical classes in 2nd year only if you've taken Eng Mathematics as well. Likewise if you've taken Eng Math in Summer.

My suggestion is to not bother with a Summer class unless it's a breadth class if you're going for Mech. There's no benefit to your degree plan unless you want to take both, and speaking from someone who is a Workshop Demonstrator for Eng Mech, you don't want to take that class in 6 weeks with another class. It's hard enough.

So wouldn't it be better for me to take Eng Maths as a summer subject in 2015 instead of FoENsince Eng Maths and Eng Mech are pre-req for 3rd year mech subjects? Is it better to do Eng Mech in sem 1 or 2 in 2nd year?
Oh well, I won't be thinking of pushing myself too hard then, I probably still have to finish in 5 years.
Is it possible to take a master of eng subject in my 3rd year bachelor degree if I have 3 more undergrad subjects to complete in sem 2 ?
