WHYY? Why did monash get rid of bachelor of accounting worst news I've ever heard
-
You could just do a BComm majoring in accounting or this instead? Personally, I don't reckon it's that big a deal - no point having twenty million degrees when most of them are just derivatives of another.
-
yo Danny. I'm in the Acc. / Fin Leadership program, and our co - ordinator also co - ordinates the Bachelor of Accounting. The reason is due to the proposed changes in the parliament - the one saying uni deregulation. Monash therefore changed their course offerings. I guess this got cut.

That makes a lot of sense in terms of the email currently circulating...

My guess is that the deregulation will allow them to accept more students into their "standard" BComm, with the increase being proportionate or greater than the number they would have accepted into BAcc. This will also probably mean lower ATAR entry requirements for BComm. The deregulation really would make BAcc largely superfluous and unnecessary. It's interesting that they've acted preemptively, but otherwise I don't think it's a big deal.

From what I've heard from the BComm coordinator, they'll be replacing BComm with more specific degrees (eg. Bachelor of Finance, Bachelor of Marketing, etc..). Take it with a grain of salt though since I wasn't really paying attention when he was talking about it (free food was there).

NO MORE B. COMM? I SAD.
Did they say you can still do double majors?

If they take it out, you should still be able to use the handbook from when you came in, so I wouldn't worry about that.

No offence, but I find many of Monash's undergrad degrees essentially duplicates of one another - making it ridiculously confusing for prospective students.
For accounting, you have a choice of:
B.Comm
B.Business (General)
B.Accounting
B.Business & Commerce
B.Business (Accounting)
All are designed to allow you CPA/CA accreditation; and there is little evidence to suggest that one will provide better employment prospects than the other.
A removal of a few of these would not only clear up unnecessary confusion; but would also remove a hell of a lot of admin overhead within the system.

Again, it wouldn't be wise to quote me since I wasn't really listening to what he was saying.
However, what I am very sure of is that the future equivalent courses will finally have ECC1100 (Principles of Macroeconomics) as a core unit.
