Title: Have I mucked up beyond repair?
Post by: 90ATAR on August 25, 2014, 03:40:07 pm
Well my ranking I believe is 3rd quartile at my school. I have received 12/20, 13/20, 24/30, 15/30 and 24/30. Since all these terrible scores (with exception to the 80%ers) I have decided to actually start working and doing practice SACS and I've been consistently pulling 25-6+/30. I think by my last SAC I should pull a ~27ish/30 for my text which is worth 50 marks which should put me in the second quartile, and an A+ for GA2 when compared to like my C or something in GA1.

If I were to score 9,9 and 9 on the exam with the aforementioned results, would it even be possible to get a 40 in the subject? I just realised how easy the subject is if you actually try so it's just disappointing, but I'll work my hardest!!!

ofcourse

keep working hard and you might even be surprised to pull a 45+ if you work hard enough and score a 10 or more on one of the written pieces !!

One of my friends a few years ago was getting Cs and Ds in English all year, worked her butt off before the exam and pulled a 43. So anything could still happen!

They are great results! Keep up the hard work, and the results you want will be yours! You definitely haven't stuffed up :).

I'll redirect you here just in case you haven't read this.

There are way too many numbers in your post. We do not concern ourselves with such things here on the English boards  :P
I believe I've mentioned this to you a couple of times now: focus on qualitative improvement, not quantitative.

Realistically, if you knew the best you could get in English was a 39 (which isn't the case) would you honestly stop trying? I know there's this glorification of 40+ Study Scores but it seems like a relatively arbitrary number. Maybe everyone's just really keen to have their names in the paper, idk, but getting a 39 in English would put you in the top ~10% of the state. (someone plz correct me with real numbers, I can't be bothered finding them.) That's still a massive achievement, so rather than fixating on what you could possibly achieve, work as hard as you can. If you know you've given it your best try then you can't possibly be disappointed.
