Are these statistics even accurate or maybe even true? I find it hard wrapping my head around how they determine what city is better than others.

And Melbourne came in number 42 for affordability. If a student can't afford to live I'm not sure it's such a good city to be a student.

Melbourne only really came number one is 'student mix' which I assume is diversity. Strange to assume that that's something that makes being a student good if it's difficult to afford to live, and in terms of the actual rankings of the universities in Melbourne, it came 9th.

It's like those surveys that find the 'best lifestyle' or whatever they call it. Melbourne excels in a couple of areas which brings the overall ranking up but then there are issues which make it not as great as it sounds. Then again, no where is perfect, and Australia is pretty damn close to perfect, compared to some of our neighbours.

I notice that the City of Monash failed to even make the list. Checkmate, Monasheists.

The 'most liveable' lists are aimed at firms deciding compensation when sending people on postings. You'd pay someone a bonus to live in Nairobi or Port Moresby, not Melbourne or New York.
