Hey guys,
We've got our text response SAC coming up in two weeks and I was just wondering how much do I need to score and be ranked in order to have a chance at a 40+?
My oral went well, I managed to score full marks but I'm a bit concerned about the upcoming SAC.
Any thoughts or personal experiences would be much appreciated!

In 2014:
Noble Park Secondary College: Rank 1
Melbourne High School: Rank 114
Basically, we can't tell you anything without your school

In order to achieve scores between 39 and 50 in English, you need to get an A+ in both Unit 3 and 4, as well as an A+ in the exam. That being said, whether or not you'll be able to achieve an A+ depends largely on the strength of your cohort. (If you're rank 1, though, it's basically all on the exam and you're not restricted by bad students). For example, if you only get an internal mark of A, if you go to a strong school such as Melbourne High, this will be moderated by VCAA and give you an A+. I wouldn't really aim for a specific score and be shattered if you didn't get it, just focus on getting a strong ranking within your cohort and do you best in SACs and the exam--the rest will take care of itself.

I go to Noble Park Secondary College :-\ haha! Rank 1 is crucial for most pub. schools though!
It really depends...

It really depends...
Yeah, that's true, but i was generalizing using my experience with public schools (usually the cohorts comprise of weak students with only a few really strong students). Ofc , it does depend on the year, cohort etc. haha :P

It varies from year to year I guess. It depends somewhat on the strength of your cohort, and also how everyone else does in the exam - after completing VCE I'm STILL not 100% sure how that confusing system works, but I'm guessing if everyone does well in the exam it'd be a lot harder to get a 40 than if it was a harder exam and you did pretty good on it - maybe not excellent, but good - and a lot of people struggled. But yeah, just because you mess up in a few sacs doesn't mean you can't get over a 40. In english I managed to get a score of 47, and I think the lowest mark I got on a sac was 93% - the rest were generally 97%, 98% and 100%.
However, in lit, I received a raw 40 as my study score, and my sac results through the year really weren't that impressive - I think I even got 70% on one sac, and most of my other sacs ranged between 80-85%. I think I only got one 90% the whole year. So yeah, in that case, the exam mattered a lot more, and my sac marks were scaled up because of it. So I'm guessing it's possible to drop below an A+ in english and still get in the 40s, as long as you do well on the exam.
