Title: section c- what topics to learn?
Post by: acm9 on October 24, 2015, 11:35:27 am
For section C, what are all the possible topics that can be asked? I'm only familiar with one and I need to choose a few more to learn. Does anyone have any bets on what the questions will be this year?

Am I correct in saying that taboo/euphemism, technology, social harmony, variations of AE and prescriptivism/descriptivism are the only topics that may come up?

Thanks so much

Hey there!

These are not the only topics that may come up - you may also encounter various forms of identity such as gender, generational and occupational. You need to prepare yourself for all topics and don't bet on doing one desired topic. I'd recommend gathering contemporary examples to allow you to showcase your 'linguistic awareness' of what's happening out in the real world. Examiners really look favourably on students who include examples that are modern and haven't been used before. For example, you would be marked down if you included 'lol' as a modern example!

I hope that helps :)
