Title: The Great Gatsby
Post by: Maz on June 24, 2016, 08:04:45 pm
Hey
I have an in-class essay on setting coming up and I was wondering if you all could help me choose the settings in the movie/book I should do? I have good paragraphs on all of them, but won't be able to discuss them all in a 50-minute essay. so for anyone who has read the book or watched the movie...which settings do you think are the most central?
There are
- West Egg
- East Egg
- Tom's mansion
- Gatsby's mansion
- The valley of the Ashes
- New York

thankyou so much  :)

Hi! I just finished the book for my English class. You should definitely write about West Egg, East Egg, and the Valley Of Ashes! I found that these settings had heaps of great content I could use, as well as heaps of symbolism as well. The differences between the three places are also a great source of content. Hope this helped!! :D

I think there's two groups you could do here, depending on what you're going for in your essay:

- East egg, West egg and The Valley of Ashes.
- The Rest

Personally I'd choose the eggs because that's what stuck out to me most when I read the book for the first time. Lots to talk about with the nature of wealth, distribution of wealth, capitalism, segregation, etc. Pick the parts that interest you most, you'll probably find that what you write works better :)
