Hey all!
We are long, long overdue for a fresh batch of moderators. This particular intake is going to be as broad as we can make it. A lot of the subject mods will be retired after fantastic service given, and we're looking for a fresh batch of people eager to contribute positively to what is surely one of the best communities to ever grace the presence of the Internet.
Application Requirements
The requirements of moderation are relatively loose, and we'll basically be looking at who's a deserving member of the community, and who shows the potential to be a fantastic leader of the community moving forward.
Level of Activity is one pretty important factor - there is no point making someone a moderator if they are not active on the community. Basic shit, right?
'Qualifications' is another. We're not going to make someone a Maths/Science/Technology moderator if they aren't doing or have never done a Maths/Science/Technology subject because they did all humanities.
Everyone can apply - regardless of year level or any other potential variable that might cause you to hesitate.
Roles and Responsibilities
Moving forward, we want to give moderators clearer directions and more power/control over the direction of the community. We want to enable you to contribute to this wonderful community as much as possible.
We're hoping that the fresh batch of moderators will:
- - Flourish the culture within the community. This is a leadership type of responsibility, and means generally just being fresh af around your subject boards - encouraging people, helping people, and having lots of fun with people. At the end of the day, contributing to the richness of AN's community and culture is one of the best things any user can do, and what moderators will be encouraged to do.
- - Uphold the high-standards of the community. This means generally applying the forum rules (which are in the process of being rewritten) and making sure that threads are in the right place so content is relevant for everyone, making sure there's no one being disgusting (trolling, being mean, racist etc.)
- - Maintaining the quality of your subject area. If you're a Maths/Science moderator, this means contributing quality answers/discussion points in relevant threads - checking past resource links every so often to see if they're broken, contributing new initiatives - new resource threads, etc. Basically, leading the forum to be as helpful as it can be for your general area.
We're in the process of a new, clearer set of rules, and will also develop a set of clear guidelines for new moderators to give you clarity in the ways you can best contribute to the AN community :).
Nominations!
It's a big fear of mine that there is someone out there on the community who would be perfect to help lead us forward, but is too intimidated by the application process.
I would love to get some nominations from you all. And to be honest, if there's a lot of support for a particular user to become a moderator, that will be a heavily weighted factor in their application. If you feel as if someone is helping you to a great degree and generally contributing in a really positive way to the community, then please feel free to recognise them here by providing a nomination (be sure to specify for which area you are nominating them). [/list]
Areas Needing Moderators
We will take applications for all areas. I'm not saying there will be a moderator for every single area - but we will take applications, absolutely. That means specific boards with English Studies, within Maths/Science/Technology, VED, specific Water Cooler boards etc.
If you have an idea for something - shoot. I would even put a moderator on the Music section of the Water Cooler if you loved music and wanted to lead that area of the forum forwards. Get your applications in! This includes both HSC and VCE subject forums.
Applications should be made by PM to me, and nominations in this thread! GO!
-
Please get involved! You don't have to be a 'popular' member of AN to apply, and I would encourage everyone to put their name forward. If you think you can contribute in a positive way, go for it!! :D
Looking forward to working with all of the new mods, and best of luck!!! :)

Ruiace.. I choose you!! For moderator
(Sorry in advance for the pokemon reference)
The reason why i think ruiace would be an amazing mod is because of his (pls correct me if i am wrong) helpful tips in the forums, amazing notes and advice he regularly posts and is always on whenever a question is needed to be asked.
Ruiace, even if you dont want the job as a mod, you have to admit you would be a canditate for it.
Good luck with the modding process all :D Please do not be shy to nominate other people, they may secretly want to be a mod but just not want to say it themselves.

zsteve for maths!

Another one for zsteve in maths 8)

I would like to nominate Iznxl and wyzard for VCE maths/science boards ;D (really unsure if they are interested :P).
-
Not sure whether I know iznxl but i certainly know that wyzard has been key on VCE science boards (when ive looked for tips for HSC bio)
-
I nominate heidii for Natmod.
I think she is a mature addition to the moderation team.
***********
In all seriousness zsteve for maths forum
-
Just a reminder that you don't have to be nominated to apply! If you just want to get more involved in AN, get some cool coloured boxes under your name, and perhaps participate in mod banter (it's strong), then get your apps into Brenden's inbox :)
-
Story: when Brenden offered me a mod position I basically turned it down from belief in my sheer incompetence. If we'd had to apply back then, I know I'd never have applied - DON'T chicken out by thinking you're "not good enough". We just may think differently.
There's so many awesome people I can't remember everyone, so I'll add more later, but here's a off-the-top-of-my-head list of nominations:
- HopefulLawStudent: English boards
- MightyBeh: Maths/Sci/Technology
- Alter: Uni/English
- zsteve: Maths/Sci/Technology
- Stick: Uni
- grampasmith: Maths/Sci/Technology
- RuiAce: Maths/Sci/Technology for HSC
~~~~~ thanks all you guys for your pretty awesome contributions so far! and looking forward to even bigger and better in future ;) [and also everyone else!]
I nominate heidii for Natmod.
I think she is a mature addition to the moderation team.
