So I've found another cool nugget of information here!
The HSC subjects with the highest RAW mean (average) marks in 2015:
1- Music Extension (88%)
2- Music 2 (87%)
3- English Extension 1 (84%)
4- Maths Extension 2 (83%)
5- Maths Extension 1 (82%)
But how does scaling effect this? The 5 subjects with the highest SCALED average result:
1- Maths Extension 2 (86)
2- Maths Extension 1 (78)
3- English Extension 1 (73)
4- English Extension 2 (72)
5- Music Extension (72)
What about non Extension subjects? The 5 non-extension subjects with the highest SCALED average result:
1- Music 2 (68)
2- English Advanced (64)
3- Economics (64)
4- Chemistry (63)
5- Physics (61)
Note that ALL HSC MARKS SCALE DOWN! Don't let the numbers make you nervous, the ATAR calculation takes this into account.
Is that what you guys would expect? :o

Sure, why not :P
An interesting story though. I think this was in 2013 or something but there was this guy in my school. Got a mid band 4 in physics and a mid-high band 5 in music 2.
Physics counted towards his ATAR...

That doesn't surprise me at all, Music 2 scaling looks like it is less beneficial in that mid-high range :P
