Hi all, hope you're finding the AMAs fun and useful. If you have any feedback, feel free to send me a PM.

Welcome to the 6th instalment of ATAR Notes' Ask Me Anything series!

Tonight we'll hear from the lovely heidi, formerly known as bangali_lok! Heidi is one of our awesome nat mods who is well known for her very kind nature and has been seen offering help in every corner of the forum (even IRC!). Below this paragraph you'll find an extract written by heidi about her own adventure so far. It is definitely a unique one, and the wisdom she has to offer is just waiting to be tapped into!

Here's what she had to say:
Quote
I finished VCE in 2014, doing HHD, Bio, English, Texts&Traditions, and Methods (ask me about any except Methods!)  Since then, I haven't had a clear path; I've tutored, trained in aged care at TAFE, worked in dementia care, done a semester of nursing at Monash, faced various serious mental health issues [I don't mind any questions whatsoever about this].  I'm passionate about being there for others when they're struggling, learning and growing, reading and writing, piano-playing and music, mental health, philosophising way too deeply, the weirdest random acts of kindness, and just fkn loving people haha.  I'm hoping one day I'll use my experiences to help others who are vulnerable or struggling in some way. :)

Without further ado, let's get straight into the action and ask some questions. Please take advantage of this thread while it's still up as the AMAs do not last forever!

Have a nice day!

But I wanted to be different
I know. :P

A more serious question to be asking is how many books do you have and why that many?

Hi Heidi,

A few questions:

What is you favourite Christian Song? (traditional or modern combined)
Who inspires you to be your best?
What is your true passion. What is would you gladly do for free?
What are you naturally curious about?
Who in your life, do you think embodies your Christian values the most?
What do you want to be remembered for?
How do you personally embody your Christian values?

I know that's quite a bit to chew. However, these may help other members if they need. :))

Why cabbage?

Ask MightyBeh.  Something about the quality of my brain.

What is the meaning of life?

Figuring this out is pretty much a lifelong process imo (and perhaps the process of figuring it out is part of the meaning of life in itself? o.O).  My current position is a pretty orthodox and blah-blah answer: there's not necessarily a specific universal 'meaning' behind life.  Rather, we create the meaning ourselves according to what matters to us and our values, y'know, and then you'll theoretically have a meaningful life if you intentionally decide what matters to you and live in line with those values, blah blah.

As to why we're here: hell knows, but we are, so might as well do something with it LOL.

Who is your favourite mod?

Me. 8)

Nah, naturally ok (assuming admins count too!)

what's 9 + 10?

Uhhh, I'm really concerned for you if you have to ask someone as un-mathematically-inclined as me to answer something mathsy for you and you're doing Spesh. :/

[18:26] <heidi> I didn't realise how blessed I've been to have a couple of days of peace from HighTide_
Have I missed something, how long will it take before this very kind natured Heidi appears!?!

It's called tough love. <3

I know. :P

A more serious question to be asking is how many books do you have and why that many?

In my house?  Over 5,000, and because I have a large and equally book-worm-y family without a TV, but I still plague nearby libraries. :P

don't remember tbh, something something cabbage guy from atla and trying to get you running HHD lectures maybe? ::)

As for questions:
If you could only eat one thing for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Assuming nutrition isn't important.
Favourite and least favourite books?
How varied is your sock collection? Do you buy one type of sock so you don't have to pair them or no?
Favourite chocolate bar?

What is you favourite Christian Song? (traditional or modern combined)
O God, Our Help In Ages Past.  An old and beautiful hymn of comfort.

Who inspires you to be your best?
No matter how cheesy, I can't go past Mother Teresa... I mean... don't these quotes just burn inside you?

'Never let anyone come to you without coming away better and happier.'
'Everybody should see kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in your warm greeting.'
'Intense love does not measure - it just gives.'
'To all those who suffer and are lonely - give them always a happy smile - give them not only your ears but also your heart.'
'I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.'
'The hunger of today is so much greater than for a piece of bread: for love - to be wanted, to be loved, to be cared for, to be somebody.'
'We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.'

What is your true passion. What is would you gladly do for free?
1.  Love
     a.  Listening to anyone that needs someone there
     b.  Hugging
     c.  Supporting those struggling with mental health
     d.  Random acts of kindness
2.  ATARNotes-ing
     a.  Putting HighTide in his place (though I wouldn't mind being paid for this either, tbh)
     b.  Double posting, typing in all-caps, swearing wildly, re-titling this thread 'Questions here', mentioning the IT board, behaving as childish as I am, and anything else that would earn me a ban if only I wasn't a nat mod :') (jks jks ily Aaron <3)

What are you naturally curious about?
Human beings - why is their brain so frickin' dysfunctional and irrational?

What do you want to be remembered for?
Loving and caring.

How do you personally embody your Christian values?
Through trying to love, to care, to sacrifice, to value other people above myself, to love my neighbour as myself.

Why are you such a legend?
Any good qualities come from a combination of nature, nurture and the rose-coloured glasses (geddit! 'glasses' haw haw haw aren't I so funny) people wear when they see blue squares under someone's name. :P

If you could only eat one thing for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Assuming nutrition isn't important.
Favourite and least favourite books?
How varied is your sock collection? Do you buy one type of sock so you don't have to pair them or no?
Favourite chocolate bar?
1.  Hot fresh chola dal and puris from certain street stalls in India <3
2.  Favourite... where do I start.  I love Our Mutual Friend (Charles Dickens), Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Steven Chboosky), The Art of Happiness (Dalai Lama), anything Dr. Seuss, Madness: A Memoir (Kate Richards), and How to Win Friends and Influence People (Dale Carnegie).   Books I hate I stop reading ASAP.
3.  Don't wear socks much tbh, but I only have one type of sock.
4.  Snickers.

What's your favourite book series, and your favourite book genre?
Series... I actually kinda like the Anne of Green Gables series ::)
Genre... anything to do with either mental health, psychology or self-help haha.

My Q: Favourite quote and why?

Perfect, and it's great to have you on board and jumping right in! :D

Hmmm, I love the quote in my sig currently, but also: The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

Edit (Came Up With a Better Question): Say you weren't modded, would you still have hung around after your VCE, and if so, what's the big reason why? ;D

Like you, I didn't join AN till after I finished VCE myself... pretty much I joined up out of the blue, I can't even remember why, to post resources and answer questions :P  Why?  Because helping people 'just coz' is what life's about.  It's fun, it's satisfying, and it's what we're here for.

What does the bikini emoji mean to you  ;)

Umm what, bikini emoji? :o

(but nah, they remind me of a reelly bad friend of mine)

Has your faith played a role in your mental health? If so, how?

I have played this questions before in a forum game: Would you rather preach Bible versus about the Pharisee to a group of priests preaching actions over faith, or preach Bible versus about the Tax Collectors in front of a group of Australian Taxation Office employees? Justify your reasons.

What is your favourite Bible Verse?

If you can make one non mod on the forums a nat mod, who would it be?

Why did you choose to join AN even though you've already graduated VCE?

With an ATAR that could perhaps get you into a decent uni course, why did you not choose to opt for alternatives?

What is your favourite music genre?

What is your pride and joy in life?

When you get older, what would you like to have achieved in your life?

What is your favourite YouTube clip?

FallingStar, will answer later. :)

1. Do you have any inspirational quotes for us?
About ten million LOL, I'm a quotes junkie.

Spoiler
No matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. - Angelou

Try to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud. - Angelou

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. - Jobs

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop. - Confucius

Do not go where the path may lead, go where there is no path and leave a trail. - Emerson

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less travelled by,
and that made all the difference.
- Frost

This is no time for ease and comfort.  It is time to dare and endure. - Churchill

So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about. - Monroe

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go... - Dr Seuss

The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater. - Tolkein

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow; but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. - Agatha Christie

And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about. - Murakami

Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers, but to be fearless in facing them. Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it. - Tagore[/quote]

2. Why are you so inspiring?
Because I present a carefully curated internet image which carefully hides (many of) my flaws and only presents exaggerated good qualities. :)

3. What is the most awe-inspiring book you've read?
Hmmmmm.... I think The Lord of the Rings (the book).

So many other though... Anna Karenina and War and Peace, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, first-world-war fiction or memoirs, second-world-war memoirs, Man's Search for Meaning, and biographies or autobiographies of crazy people who have done crazy things or just been incredibly awesome - such as Mother Teresa or Dr Ida Scudder or William Carey and the list goes on.

Pretty much, books where the human spirit rises and shows its incredible nobility above and beyond what is required despite crushing struggles.

Heidi, why no more weekly newsletter anymore :(

They were amazing, need a Resurrection.

Btw, scariest mod?
Because I was drastically over-committed at the time and I'm hopeless at doing anything useful nowadays. :)

Me.  Durrrrr.

What is the worst film you have seen at the cinemas?
Um.  Well.  This is awkward.  I have... never... been... to... the... cinemas... LOOOOOL.

Have you read The Silmarillion? Or the ASOIAF series (very different to LOTR in terms of writing style, plot, and the general feel, although they're both fantastic series)?
