I was just wondering with the Historical Periods section in particular, how often do you need to refer to sources in order to get the top band?

My teacher told me 2-3 per paragraph was a good number, but that'd vary depending on the question :) Another guide he gave me was 1 source per point, so if you made a point about Nero's character (I'm studying the Julio-Claudians) being "cruel" and "depraved," use a source to back up that claim.

Perfect explanation sudodds! Basically, your argument should be based on the sources and specifically what they reveal about the topic. There would be no ancient history without the amazing sources that we have!!
For example: The mosaic in the House of the Faun in Pompeii reveals to us the diversity of the diet consumed by the people of Pompeii, which included various types of seafood. This also suggests to us the impact that Pompeii's geographical location had on society. etc. etc. :)
