So after a year of studying my course at UoM I've decided it is not for me and chosen to try and transfer to Science (still at UoM). I've heard a lot of different numbers ranging from as low as 65 to as high as 80+ regarding the WAM that'll get me through. I'm currently sitting on a 78.25 WAM and I'm honestly not sure if I'll get through with that. Can anyone with recent experience of transferring to Science (hopefully from this year or 2015) shed any light as to if I'm in a good position or not?
Secondly, lets say that I am unsuccessful, what do I do? I don't want to continue my current course even though I can realistically get through it and even make a career out of it. Am I able to other courses from other unis to my VTAC preference list without jeopardising the success of getting into Science at UoM? Sorry if the question sounds a bit silly, but the whole applying to transfer through VTAC has confused me somewhat.

78 WAM sounds really competitive to me. You'd probably get into Monash Law with that, so whilst I don't know much about Melbourne I'd imagine your chances would be pretty good getting into Science.
If you're unsuccessful, move into another course! Perhaps Science at Monash?
I'm pretty sure you should be able to put other units in your VTAC preferences without it impacting your transfer whatsoever. I'm not sure how MelbUni would even know about your VTAC preferences if you made a VTAC application!

If you're transferring from Comm/Biomed/Arts then yes.
Environments/Music it's a tad questionable but still most likely yes :)

Really I'm not sure how they'd know that I added other courses to my VTAC preference list either but I've got very little idea about what goes on behind the scenes. All I know is that UoM forwards my results to VTAC which then forwards my entire application to every institution I have on my preference list. Whether that means that the unis get my preference list or just know that I had them somewhere on the list is beyond me

Just posting to say I think you have a very strong chance of being able to transfer.

The above link is with regards to mid-year applications, so it's not entirely accurate, but the fact that you're on a 78 when you would have needed a 70 to cross over at mid-year signals to me that you'd have a great chance of getting accepted.

I've already seen that page, but thanks all the same. The fact that it is an "indicative minimum" and not a guaranteed entry point still leaves a bit of room for concern but given what everyone has said so far, I feel better about my chances.

I do not know if I should apply for transferring to other universities or not. It's because arts subjects are not for me. I personally do not find it interesting. Can you guys please suggest me something. How is the job availability for BA in Economics students in Melbourne? I am an international student so I do not know much regarding these topics.

I'm not 100 percent sure of the indicative entry standards for international students, but assuming it's similar to domestic students I don't think you'll get in with a WAM of 59. I'd be surprised if you did. If you don't want to Arts then I'd highly recommend applying to other universities as well. As for job prospects, it'll be competitive, but you'll need to speak to someone who is doing/done Economics to get further insight into the topic.

Hey mate. I was in the same situation as you. I went from Arts at Monash to Economics at RMIT. You should be able to get in as requirements is 50 WAM i believe.
I have no idea about job prospects upon graduation as im just doing that course to get into another graduate course.

Way late on this thread but I think we might be the same person - I just finished a year at Melbourne, was quite underwhelmed by my course and am now looking to switch to science (still at Melbourne). I even have the same 78 WAM ffs. I don't have any useful advice but, uh, good luck to both of us?
