can anyone tell me what happens when you don't get the enter you need?
because its seems as though an enter below 80 means your life is over.
and is it? if you don't get a good enter does that mean you'll live the rest of your life a failure?
but will it truly make you happy?
is the key to happiness really in how you do in school?
this is what the VCE truly does to people -.- lol
-
If you don't get your required ENTER you can always go into another uni course or even tafe and you can transfer to the course you want later down the road!
ENTER is just a number
It seems that not many people really care about their ENTER when they leave high school.
It's up to you if it makes you happy :)
I would say that if anything you should view it as personal challenge. While it may help with getting into a course, there are lots more opportunities besides vce
-
no one cares or talks about enter after vce... but i guess if you really really want to do a course and u dont get enter youll be disappointed but you can still do it if you want through other means
so you shouldnt really stress, even though i had thoughts like u but it really shouldnt matter since you have so many options but that doesnt mean you try ur best... so the final point: try as hard as you can, and if that isnt enough to get you into the course then you couldnt have done anymore and there are many options
-
You know how people say the ENTER is just something people talk about when it's released, and then completely forget when tertiary study starts for the year? Well it's true. No one cares that much after it's all done. I usually forget to recall the last two digits of my ENTER correctly, sometimes I say .25, sometimes .35 or .65, because I don't tend to think about it unless I'm on VN. For ease of mind, I have never been asked about my ENTER at uni. It really is just a number, but right now you're probably feeling like your life revolves around it. It's normal to pessimistically anticipate your results since you have the stress and probably peers exerting the same stress around you. The exams looming with the pressure from your own expectations add to your view that your results are the only thing in your life ... but the number doesn't define you unless you want it to. If it helps, look at it realistically. Yes you want to do well, but do you really think someone like a waiter or the first person you sit next to on the tram is going to ask you for your ENTER? Seriously, your life won't be over because you don't meet your own expectation for results. Get through it and you'll see how true it is.
Also enjoy high school. It's full of good things. Your biggest regret will be: not getting the most out of high school, instead of not getting the highest mark you can. Most of you will miss it, no matter how much you say you hate it now.

You grudgingly accept your 3rd preference because you didn't get into #1 or #2. Then a year later you realise that you really love your 3rd preference, and wouldn't trade it for 1 or 2 for the world.
True story :P
-
Also, your parents will still love you. If in doubt, ring them and say "I just got involved in a car accident".
Possible responses:
(1) ARE YOU ALRIGHT?
(2) IS THE CAR ALRIGHT?
(3) I KNEW IT.
(4) WHY ARE YOU ALIVE?
If (1), your parents love you; (2) they love the car more than you; (3) your parents are psychic; (4) they want you to move out.

That happened to my dad's friend's son. He just missed out on med, and accepted medical research instead. He then proceeded to top medical research, was offered a transfer into med, turned it down, and is now doing a PhD with a scholarship.
-
lol yeah beofre i started uni i was thinking i want to transfer into biomed.... but decided to stick with science

It was UniMelb quite a few years ago... I'm not quite sure if it was called Medical Research (it might have been Biomedical Research, come to think of it), but it was definitely the equivalent of today's biomedicine.

lol days of studying end.... WRONG! .... unless you want to fail your units =)
you get so much assignments and tests and pracs in uni.... and then your like when is this going to end!!!

ENTER below 80 = life end (jobwise). No way!
there are still a heap of things that you can do with an ENTER of 70+.
If you are feeling you are going to do bad with VCE just remember there is about 5 weeks left until your exams so you can change a lot (I turned my fear of failing English - i.e. getting less than 25 - into a 30 through just studying it a bit and trying to do some work on it).
-
... but the number doesn't define you unless you want it to.
This is really true. I do sometimes look at my ENTER and think hmm I could have achieved better and I'm pretty sure a lot of the people on VCE notes do. You are not alone at the moment there are 50,000+ people thinking about ENTER.
Also enjoy high school. It's full of good things. Your biggest regret will be: not getting the most out of high school, instead of not getting the highest mark you can. Most of you will miss it, no matter how much you say you hate it now.
Yep this is also true. With this time coming up you'll be thinking about exams and leaving school. In this time I guess I made the most out of school! I did a speech for valedictory assembly, bought party poppers for after the valedictory assembly. Term 4 is a hard term, but, you can also make part of it a fun term.

Any mainstream uni will offer medical research.
There is no way I would ever do medicine:
- I am a germaphobe who suffers from emetophobia.
- Seems demanding. 60 hour weeks and in the latest news the QLD government tells doctors to drink 6 coffees a day at minimum (who's the doctor here?)
- I have no passion to become a doctor. The name may sound cool and it would make a new persona of you at dinners, but, really I would not want to become a doctor. Businessman yes, doctor no.
-

You could always repeat year 12 with a few subjects.

Umm with engineering no they don't. Engineering is no walk in the park and not doing any study will give you heaps of fails! Now which company would hire a person with that work ethic?

Yeah I was kind of regreting not doing VCE biology but then I heard you guys have to grow E. Coli (the bacteria which causes food poisoning!!!), there is no way I would do that prac. I can handle radioactive sources but not food poisoning bacteria.
-
LOL e.coli is not bad its part of our normal flora in the gut.... and anyway the e.coli we use in pracs does not cause food poisoning, there's certain pathogenic e.coli that can cause food poisoning ... and theres lots of other bacteria that cause food poisoning and its usually just the toxin that is ingested not the bacteria...but yeah i reckon you would love to read about barry marshall's story of how he drank yummy helicobacter pylori mmm

My 1 and 2 had nothing to do with 3 :P (1 and 2 were med at Monash/UoM, 3 is arts/law)
So OP even if you get into a completely separate discipline from what you originally wanted, it's not the end of the world. It may just be fate nudging you towards the truly right course for you ;)

why would you ever repeat year 12 again, there have been many threads/post on this. For one, today they have so many pathways and opportunities, that if you don't get into your course the direct way, you can go otehr ways e.g. do another course in man time
But if you REALLY wanted to, just talk to your coordinators, but i think this option is more for people who struggle, not necesarrily those that get like a 85, but needed a 90.

what about those someone who got an 84, for example, but needed a 85 for there last preference? or someone who didn't do well enough in english to go to monash/UoM (only place they wanted to go)? i reckon that's they are both a reason to repeat year12 if desperate :P

They could go through a year at Vic Uni or TAFE, get kickass marks and then transfer if they're really that desperate. Repeating year 12 just seems like a massive waste of time.
-
Exactly, plus that option gives you credit usually so you're not adding a whole year onto your degree. Plus even if you repeat VCE you're not guaranteed to get a better ENTER. I know someone who got ~97.5, missed out on med, repeated VCE and UMAT and studied her ass off and only got 97.xx the second time round too. Waste of time.

Oh wow, that's extremely unfortunate!!....but getting 84 - it'd be easier to get higher as doing 2~3 subjects which can be focused on will definitely bring the score up. I would hate to repeat year 12 though and i highly doubt i would ever, just an option ;)

That's why SEAS exists, and also, they are allowed to do some tweaking if you talk to them etc. Some people on this site have been in the same situation and have gotten in. BTW, I hold the same fear :P, of being that bit off, but i'm sure it would work out!
-
Eh... I think most people will find that 1st year uni is easier and less stressful than VCE.
The extended summer break (compared to high school) is also always nice :)
-
what about those someone who got an 84, for example, but needed a 85 for there last preference?
you'd have to be pretty silly to not have changed your preferences to prevent this situation from occurring
