Title: MUEP Philosophy
Post by: EvangelionZeta on September 19, 2009, 03:52:22 pm
First of all, has anyone done it?  >.>

Secondly, it says in the description that there are four full day workshops per year.  Generally speaking, would you expect these workshops to be randomly scheduled, or towards a specific spot in each term (eg. the start/end)?  More specifically, would there be one as early as Term 1 Week 4...?

there are four workshops per semester, each held on a saturday before an assignment is due. there are only 3 assignments and 1 exam per semester so it's pretty spread out. there are like 3-4 weeks between each due date. this years first workshop was on feb 14th, which is about term 1, week 3, i think. does that help at all?

Yep!  How long are the workshops, and is it possible to miss any of them?

the workshops are from 10am-4pm.

they're not compulsory (but "strongly recommended"), so it's up to you to decide whether to attend or not. in my opinion they are really helpful and i'd try to get to as many as possible.

Haha yeah, just I'm wondering because there are potential clashes with stuff like play rehearsal etc.  "strongly recommended" sounds good though - I doubt anything will overlap for more than say an hour or so.

Thanks for the help.  Do you do MUEP Philo, and if so, how do you find it?

yeah, i lost interest a bit in semester 2, but overall it's been fun. having never done philosophy, i thought i'd just fail everything, but i've managed alright. and i think i heard that they're taking out some of the logic in the course for next year, so that's a huge plus.

Does anyone do MUEP Philosophy at my school (Dandenong High)? If so, do you have a Monash teacher or Dandenong teacher?

I know for the two local schools in my area (mornington peninsula) that offer MUEP philosophy the tutors are from monash.. i'd say that's what would generally happen since it's unlikely a teacher at your school would know the monash course well enough
